Boehner hits brakes on immigration overhaul

There is a legitimate complaint here,

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/02/06/boehner-hits-brakes-on-immigration-overhaul/
"There's widespread doubt about whether this administration can be trusted to enforce our laws, and it's going to be difficult to move any immigration legislation until that changes," Boehner said.

Even if immigration reform is passed, what guarantee do we have obama is going to enforce the law?

Obama postponed the business mandate under the ACA.

Justice department will not be enforcing federal marijuana laws in Colorado.

Obama: Hell No We Won't Enforce immigration laws - from 2012

A guarantee from Obama? I imagine it would go something like this:

We will keep this promise to the American people. If you like your immigration laws, we will enforce those laws. Period.

I dont really see that as a reason to stop reform. If Obama fails to enforce the laws passed by congress. It is his problem, not congreses.

I believe that a decent agreement could be forged if it included increased border security...not just a promise of increased security. Unfortunately, as Reagan found out the hard way, Democrats can't be trusted keep their promises in this area.

I thought they were gonna do the incremental trigger. Beef up security to a point and then pass more amnesty.

Sounds like another excuse from a do nothing House for doing nothing.
Boehner is putting it on hold because he can't lead.

Boehner putting the brakes on the Republican house is like me putting the brakes on a car that has no engine and is sitting on cinder blocks in the back yard.

What good does beefing up border security do if 50% of illegal immigrants are the result of visa overstays?

Wasn't the focus on stemming illegals crossing the mexican border? Illegal immigrant visa overstays are very small compared to the ones crossing the border. Overstaying your visa will eventually be noticed by someone

Let's not kid ourselves here, there is an election coming and Republican candidates tend to get beat up over immigration more than Democratic candidates. I imagine they want to see if the Senate goes under Republican control after the elections, that way they get to craft the bill and essentially take credit for it. This is nothing more than political posturing.

~50% of illegal immigrants in the US are visa overstays.

Might be easier to just annex all the Central American countries and then defend the Colombian border.

If we're going to engage in nation building, might as well do it nearby; saving boatloads of cash on fuel costs. Then, once the nearby nations are improved we won't need to watch the border so closely anyway. Also, in the interim we can lower illegal immigration from all the construction jobs we create in those countries (after bombing the existing infrastructure, drug lords, corrupt government installations, and civilians obviously)

Plus, that'll put us one step closer to getting the 5 army bonus for controlling all of N. America.

It's par for the course for the GOP. We can't get anything done, but watch us blame Obama for it.
It's tough for the GOP to get anything done when most all their legislation is getting blocked by Senate leadership. It appears that the GOP wants to wait until after the elections this year hoping to pick up some more Senate seats and possibly control.

There is always some excuse. They had House, Senate and Presidency, didn't get much good done either.

A president who refuses to enforce laws he is sworn to uphold is no reason not to pass even more laws that will be ignored?

I honestly feel Boehner has no spine.

The government as a whole is lacking in leadership.
