I saw a show on how BMWs are built on German TV.

They are definitely worth the money they ask for. TREMENDOUS design/technology know-how! They certainly merit their rep as one of the premier car makers in the world!

Their design? I was horrified at how absolutely dismal their interior was. While the new interior on the 3 series body is better, it's still subpar when compared to Mercedes

Who the hell puts a cup holder on the passenger side? One that is flimsy as hell to boot.

Seriously, Qosis is right. BMWs are not nearly the car for dash strokers that MBs are.

My bro has a BMW on lease. These things are built so cheaply. The fender is connected to the body with small plastic hinges :disgust:
There are so many reports of the fenders falling off.
Even a corolla has a metal frame on the bottom that keeps bumps on the road from hitting the vulnerable fender. BMW is just.. vulnerable.

I have owned my 3 series for almost 7 years now. 156k miles and no major trouble other than my A/C going out last summer. Like others here I find that it is much cheaper to find an idependent garage you trust. The one I go to is actually cheaper than taking my g/f's toyota to the dealer.

It is truly the best among those four. All of them doesnt even compare to how the handling feels on the 3 series. Yes the 330ci is lacking in power, but if I want to just go fast in a straight line I would buy something else

A 330ci is not lacking in power. Not the E46 and especially not the E90.

If you're not fully satisfied, grab the supercharger kit.

My next car will be a BMW, but it will pre-date iDrive and Chris Bangle. ;)

E39 Baby...quite possibly the sexiest series known to date. :D

I still get a kick everytime I drive my E39 540I 6spd. On the other hand, I can't understand why anyone would pay $50K+ for a BMW 525.

Im saving up for a used 2000-2003 E39 M5. If something comes up or savings fall short, I will get the 540i. My god they are sexy.

Ive done quite a bit of research so far, but first hand experience is best. How is the reliability of your 540i so far? Did you buy it new or used?

ill admit ive sat in BMW's just to sit, mom used to be receptionist at a BMW dealer.

i did not like the dash as much as i thought could be a "great" dash, decent layout, but not the best. i liked the layout of my saab, and the feeling of the actual top of the dash was awesome, buttons not so much as the BMW.

ppl on here take me for a GM whore, but in general i will go out and sit, and nitpick every car, hell i did it to the Tahoe, but no one replied, so i dont feel like i should do that again.

i like the 540 for its acceleration, a sleeper car, but the 8 has the looks and is more rare

i like rare cars

No, they're everything that Car and Driver says they are.

iDrive takes time for it to grow on you. Once you get used to it, it's amazing to have so much control over every little thing about your car. It's a technological marvel.

BMWs are a blast to drive, cost a lot to maintain, and provide a nice status boost.

Plus they've got more soul than just about any other car.

my 400 dollar flat tire last week agrees with you

The transmission on my Acura gave out around 30,000 miles. Don't even start with me. :p

Don't worry, you aren't the only one... my aunt had her transmission on her acura mdx go out at 40,000, evidently it's a relatively common problem.

yea, the early 2000 gen accords/TLs/CLs had some engineering defects in their automatic transmissions and were crapping out left and right. i still swear by honda though. 1988 accord lx sedan 5 speed, still ticking at over 200,000 miles. newly acquired 1998 integra gs-r sedan, flawless at 78,000 miles. i've driven a 2003 330i and those things are fast. not sure if i'd be willing to pony up the money for the repairs though. a new RL or TL would fit the driveway nicely.

A 540 would leave an 840 sitting still. They really weren't that impressive, performance wise.

Cool, I have a 2004 Z4 3.0i myself.
Also with BMW reliability.....it stems from the iDrive's issues (mainly software)

dont get me wrong, the 330ci is good enough for me, but compared to the g35 it is lacking in power (HP wise)

330ci is currently for e46 only, the e90 version is not out yet

Nah I dont need more power.. also I dont want to blow the warranty.. NA is fine for me :)
