I'd say depends on the model, there are good and bad, as with all car companies. On the whole though, people probably think they're better than they actually are.

Bmw's are nice cars, but will cost you a LOT to drive. Parts are expensive and they are hard to work on. But they are really the only choice if you want luxury and some sporting ability.
Mercedes is an overpriced tank, and unreliable to boot, not to mention ugly.
If you want a luxury tank, Lexus is what you want.

SLK, SL, SLR are tanks, ugly, and unreliable?

No, they're everything that Car and Driver says they are.

iDrive takes time for it to grow on you. Once you get used to it, it's amazing to have so much control over every little thing about your car. It's a technological marvel.

BMWs are a blast to drive, cost a lot to maintain, and provide a nice status boost.

Plus they've got more soul than just about any other car.

my 400 dollar flat tire last week agrees with you

The transmission on my Acura gave out around 30,000 miles. Don't even start with me. :p

Don't worry, you aren't the only one... my aunt had her transmission on her acura mdx go out at 40,000, evidently it's a relatively common problem.

Depressed Whale (new 6 series)
Updated Malformed Clownshoe (new z4 coupe)

Good:
E90 is not bad

Yeah, I don't want a luxury SUV smashed into a car, AKA moving sofa.

Just from that post alone, you're perfect for your BMW.

Thats right, Iam perfect for it and its perfect for me, thats why I bought it. Not cause of the way I acted or think

You don't see me with the I'm better than you look on my face. I can affod one, maybe you can;t I don't think that makes me better than you, nor I'm I and up tight i love you. I only hate people who chose to be losers, then yes I'am better than them.

I dissagree, they are NOT overrated. I like German cars, but BMW is my favorite...

The New BMWs are alright, but I will ALWAYS choose a E36 M3 over ANY other car...

Some people really don't know what they are talking about.

Is the M-Class ugly, the E station wagon, the R Class? Sure enough. But Mercedes has some fantastic looking cars too. I'm currently in the market for the new 4 series (the SLK 55 isn't exactly a winter car) and I personally prefer the Mercedes any day. BMW makes attractive elegant cars. Their cars, with the exception of the 6 series, are not lookers though. Take an SLK 55, an SL 55, or a McLaren SLR anywhere and you will get ten times more attention than any BMW can ever hope to get.

MB and BMW have very different driving philosophies. MB makes better straight line vehicles, BMW makes better turning vehicles. Just check out the E55 and M5.

Unless it's an M series, I really don't think I could justify buying a BMW.

I saw a show on how BMWs are built on German TV.

They are definitely worth the money they ask for. TREMENDOUS design/technology know-how! They certainly merit their rep as one of the premier car makers in the world!

Their design? I was horrified at how absolutely dismal their interior was. While the new interior on the 3 series body is better, it's still subpar when compared to Mercedes

Who the hell puts a cup holder on the passenger side? One that is flimsy as hell to boot.

Those individuals shallow enough to be consumed by status will tend to like BMWs, since substance is not required to back up "image". Those individuals will be enthralled with the badge, and their opinion of the car need go no further.

I love my beamer.

While there's definitely a lot of hype around them, and E46 series is underpowered (not the M3), I love everything else about it.
Never had major issues, and I do upgrades/mods myself. The car is easy to work on, and the parts never costed me an arm and a leg.

ealers tend to charge a boatload, just because it's a BMW, but hey - stealerships are stealerships. I have a trusted racing BMW shop I go to.

I'm wearing $200 pajamas right now. You're preaching to the choir. :p You can't imagine how happy I am with myself though.

I test drove an audi a4, merc c class, g35, before i finally settled on my 330ci.

It is truly the best among those four. All of them doesnt even compare to how the handling feels on the 3 series. Yes the 330ci is lacking in power, but if I want to just go fast in a straight line I would buy something else
