No, they're everything that Car and Driver says they are.

iDrive takes time for it to grow on you. Once you get used to it, it's amazing to have so much control over every little thing about your car. It's a technological marvel.

BMWs are a blast to drive, cost a lot to maintain, and provide a nice status boost.

Plus they've got more soul than just about any other car.

my 400 dollar flat tire last week agrees with you

The transmission on my Acura gave out around 30,000 miles. Don't even start with me. :p

I have a 1988 bmw 325i.

This car was once my fathers.

Either way, the thing has over 350,000 miles, has its original engine, has had very, very few problems. (Worst being when I almost crashed it earlier this year...) and it *still* has enough power to accelerate to 60 quickly and maintain over 100mph with no issues.

It may be old, and the air conditioning might be shot, but I love the little ah heck to death.

Personally, having owned two BMWs and driven many more than that, I think they are.

I give you exhibit a: iDrive...The worst development of the automobile since Ford designed the Pinto.

I give you exhibit b: Chris Bangle...The devil himself. Single handedly took the flagship BMW, the 7 series, and Bangled it into one of the ugliest vehicles on the planet. Then he proceeded to do the same to the rest of the BMW line. I give you the Z3, the 5 series, the X3 and the new 3 series. Chris Bangle has managed to make every car a de-evolotion of the previous model. Congrats Chris, you suck.

As if that weren't enough, I give you exhibit c: BMW quality. It has slipped. Speaking from experience and from talking with our BMW mechanic, reliability has declined. At least Mercedes makes nice looking cars. They may not be any more reliable than BMW but at least they look sexy.

<--does not currently own any German cars. :D

Take a drive in an M5 and see what you think of BMW's then.

I disagree, at least slightly. I like most of Bangle's designs, and BMWs look 100 times better than Mercedes. But I do agree they are overrated still. I can think of several Bimmers I would love to own (Z4 especially), but not a single Mercedes except maybe their disproportionately long-nosed SLR McLaren supercar (which is still ugly as sin)

lets see.

Z4's like to have their frames twist.
BMW's arent bad cars persay, but i do think there are others out there who can compete with them, no one just will admit it though.

BMW= Bring Money Willingly or Basic Marin Wheels.
Bmw's are nice cars, but will cost you a LOT to drive. Parts are expensive and they are hard to work on. But they are really the only choice if you want luxury and some sporting ability.
Mercedes is an overpriced tank, and unreliable to boot, not to mention ugly.
If you want a luxury tank, Lexus is what you want.

BMW was the world's best car company during the mid to late 90s, up to the debut of the E60 7-series. Their new designs and obsession with technology over simple engineering have turned me off.

Unfortunately, their sales numbers have improved with Bangle and iDrive, so no reason to stop.

Yeah, I don't want a luxury SUV smashed into a car, AKA moving sofa.
