BMW M5 - Every other car looks weak in comparison

I'm not saying that the M5 is the end all be all...

You didn't start the ludicrous topic.

...that Cobra can pretty much "chew up" almost every car out on the road today?

Is that supposed to be a question? I'd rather have a machine with cubic inches than RPM for power, and the results speak for themselves.

What passes for your average "sports car" today IS pathetic, yes.

In a drag race, yes. In nearly any other situation, no.

The Cobra pulled close to 1G on the skidpad with bias ply tires...

Uhhh, I don't know of many situations where the Z06 would get its ass handed to it by an M3.

Your friend is like one those people who jump on bandwagons. Probablt the same people that say Skyline>McLaren F1. 😕

I will take a Z06 over an M3 any day.

a. A skidpad is not a racetrack. Ultimate grip != handling.

b. I betcha that was a 289, not a 427.

c. This thread is dumb, but your comments are dumber. The M5 is a midsize sports/luxury sedan that seats 4 and has a large trunk, wheras the Cobra is a barely-streetable, stripped-down hot rod. You might as well make your point by arguing that the M5 is slower than a top fuel dragster.

Did I create the topic?

A normally aspirated 427 is TOTALLY streetable and that configuration would not have to cost anywhere near $80K. Which would win in the twisties? I'd like to see, but 4,000lbs ain't an asset.

Fanboi shootout on a computer hardware forum?

Any event with a bend involved and the M5 will destroy any Cobra. Hands down. No question.

Yeah, because there have been no improvements in body control and suspension in the last 30 years.

don't forget - the shelby is coming out (2007 right?) isn't it supposed to do 0-60 < 4s?

No, I will forget it. It's not a 30yr old Cobra!! 😛

Screw it, lets just put a 454 in a Model T and see how fast that goes. I bet it would rinse the M5, cause it has 1337 p0wxors.

Hahahahha!

I already know this going to break down to an unfair advantage due to a car weighing only half as much, BUT I DIDN'T START THE TOPIC!

I'd Expect something around the 1:28 at least from the M5 and the Cobra an arm-twisting 1:36.

We shall see when they take the M5 round. The Cobra we may have a long wait for...

If they'd just fire Chris Bangle and get rid of that funky iDrive it might peak my interest...assuming, of course, that I was actually in the market for an $80k sport sedan.

Edit-I've stopped being impressed by cars I'll never own. Besides, I see so many sweet cars around here. Meh, another Ferrari 360 Spyder. Meh, another Maserati convertible. Meh, another Bentley Continental GT. M5's are just your average 4 door sedan. I doubt I'd even do a double take for one of those.

Yep, Charger is the car for you alright. Heee Haw!

I'd take a Noble M400 or M14 over a M5 anyday.

*note that a typical price for a completed Noble M400 in the states is in the $89,000 to 95,000 range. *
