So another enormous 2+2 coupe with a backseat that is basically a really expensive parcel shelf. No thanks, BMW. I'll stick with the 3/5.

I'm just waiting on the worthless 2-series now. Maybe it could be a single seat version of the 1-series.

edit: it is pretty, though, aside from the wheels.

Arg... So disappointing to see them leave one of their most notable and valuable designs behind... the halo headlights. The octagons look cool, but bleh.

Also that fender flare... wtf.....

And that rear bumper???

I like the overall design, but you could stick a kia logo on that and no one would ever know.

Really? I thought the looks were the area where they did a good job (as opposed to the general concept/idea of the vehicle). It's embracing the...well, ugliness...that they seem to have been cultivating in the last few years, but they managed to make it look fairly aggressive and cool-looking. When I saw it before looking at the comparison pics, I forgot how bad the current 3-series looked.

I like the current 3 series from head on, but they definitely made it ugly from the side and any angle that isn't directly head on or tail on. This 4 series just looks, uh, well, like they're aiming to A5 territory.

I'm assuming it'll also have a 6-9k price bump from the 3 series for no good reason.

Oh wait, I remember now why, "Premium" brand line differentiation (gimme your $ you dumb consumer).

I kinda like the outside appearance, but what is with the fake woodgrain dash crap in the interior? Do BMW buyers actually prefer that?

To me, one of the main appeals to (most) BMWs is that the timeless design.

Generally they don't do these "same bodystyle with a refresh" type of things, as it (IMO) shows that they aren't confident in what they did.

I like it. Sadly, it'll probably be priced more like an A5 than a 3-series Sedan. :(

Meh ...

When the hell is the Z2 coming out? I want to replace my aging Z3.

Damn these odd numbers. What is a Z2? 1-based roaster, I'm assuming from the pics that came up when googled?

The Z3/Z4 were their own platform, weren't they?

I think it looks great. I know they will price it too high as several others have said. I would think about buying one if they priced it the same as the 3-series.

The leather strips on the seats are a little weird, and the cupholders too. Probably optional though.

I expect it to be much more boring in production trim.

F30 looks much better. Front and rear bumpers and the headlights on the F32 are just god-awful.

its a concept. they always do the outrageous bumpers and door handles and tiny mirrors.

there was a spy pic of the actual car (which will be unveiled at the detroit auto show) and it probably will have normal bumpers like the 3 sedan and a similar interior (the concept one was a BMW individual leather wrapped over the top example)

Basically the 4 will be a 3 with 2 less doors and for that you pay $5000 more (the price difference between an A4 and A5 is about that when i last checked). The 6 series is an even bigger car and the rear seats are just barely useable but it costs like $10k more than a 5 series too.

I'm not a fan of 2+2s either... other than the people buying the coupe are subsidizing us sedan owners platform r&d costs , so for that i thank them

i think the Z3/Z4 in the end were more or less based on the 3 series platform. a lot of them more or less are the same platform, the F20/F25/F30 are all more or less the same bones underneath.

same with the E89 (z4) , E90 (3 series) , and E82 , and X1/ x3 e generation cars

I think their scheme is even numbers = coupes now. or well even numbers = coupes, or cars with terrible rear headroom and sort of look like coupes (6 gran coupe/ future 2 / 4 gran coupe)

That makes sense. A lot of manufacturers seem to be going that way- develop one good, proven platform, and stretch, mod suspension, or otherwise make minor alterations to accommodate different bodies.

well, maybe, but this isn't evidence of a new trend as BMW has been making 3 series coupes pretty much forever. this is just a renaming of the replacement of the E92 3 series coupe. which i think is stupid from a branding standpoint.

No one else hate that they keep making the 3 series more and more cab forward? Soon it will have the same overhang as an Audi

Something about it I don't like.

Too big? Looks like a 6 series? Too big? I think the target audience for that car is wealthy professionals over the age of 40.

No, it's wealthy professional douchebags in their 20s and 30s. I know because I'm surrounded by them working in downtown Houston

i've gotten a lot of flack from people like you for similar cars i've bought who probably think what you said.

as i told one guy, you know the difference between a new camry and a bmw, a month over a 5 year financing agreement is owning a dog.

everyone has the things they like that they spend money on. doesn't make them a douchebag though a lot of them could be. if you have a kid or a mortgage those are the things you decided to spend money on that some 20 something with a 4 series might not have choosen to apply their money towards.

They don't know the difference between a BMW and a Camry. What makes them douchebags is that they buy these cars as a status symbol. The only exception would be the folks who buy them with a manual trans, as they're obviously car enthusiasts. OK maybe 0.1% of the automatic owners are enthusiasts and just made a mistake.
