BMW 330ci or Acura cL Type S?

Mork

Senior member
Test drove the Type S today, and it felt really fast 🙂

Going to test drive the 330ci tomorrow, and after reading up on it, it's looking better and better.

What do you guys think?

cl type s

3 series bmw = yuppie car

although i do admit, i like the styling of the 3series bmw better, it felt like the type s had more ooomph

my cousin has the 330ci. i dunno for the price, it doesnt seem all that well spec'd out. It is a BMW i guess. but whatever.

228 horse power v6. and its like $43000 . the type S is a better value, i like the type S look better also.

If you have to ask that question, then get the TL-S 😀

j/k

In all seriousness, it just depends on what you really want. For me, it's the difference between a manual and an automatic. The TL-S may be fast, but it's slushbox only. The bimmer is fun to drive, and you can get a fuller experience through a manual.

BMW 330Ci has 225 HP, and it's an inline-6...not a V6

I have the Acura CL Type S and the car rocks... I love it.. 🙂 The beemer is nice too.. but its like 10k more.. So if you have 10k to burn ge the beemer.. if not get the CL Type S.

Uhhh...

BMW = RWD

Acura = FWD

If that's not enough to go for the BMW, remember this: Chicks will turn their heads when they see a BMW, not an Acura (aka Honda Accord with different frame).

Check out the image in my sig! Do you think she'd have that smile in an Acura???

Props to mad indian, I saw SEVERAL G35s out today. Nice cars.

I made an error in my first post, you don't want a TL-S 😛 But I'd still take the Bimmer over the CL-S

beamer 330ci = 225 HP
CL type S = 260 HP 😀

I should know, I own the 4 door version which is the TL Type S

Yes, the G35 Coupe is tempting!
>>

it does sound tempting, but the styling of the infiniti g35 looks kinda whack IMO (this is ONLY MY OPINION) 😀 either way, i am not in favor of coupes, can't take as many girls along in the car 😀

I don't know. I kind of like the BMW, but there are just too many of them around here.
Also, the power is lacking. Paying 40K for 330ci with only 220hP when you can get G35 coupe in the fall with 280HP for 30K to me is foolish.
The only 3 series Bimmer I could see myself buying is the M3. I think other 3 series Bimmers are underwhelming for the money.

Nice car! But the front headlight design are fugly...

What about the rear headlights 😀
Anyways, I like them. If anything, I would work on the tail-lights.
I am not big fan of redesigned 2002 3 series. Liked the 2002 much more.
New headlights
New taillights
Just look too busy for me. Just a lesson, don't mess with a good thing.
I wish infiniti would just bring back the J30 or call it J35 instead of calling it G35. G35 sounds like G20.

If you are getting an automatic no matter which you get, then the Acura TL type-S would get my nod. I just couldn't see spending another $10,000 on the Bimmer. Just not worth it. If you prefer to row your own boat, then you really only have once choice right now. There's no telling if the 6spd manual in the CL Type-S will make it into the sedan or not, but if it did I'd love to read some comparos.

First of all, decide if you wish to drive a rear wheel or front wheel drive vehicle. If you do not know the benefits and faults of either, then just stick with the Acura... it will save you money and you won't crash it in the rain.

If you decide to choose a RWD vehicle, of course, the BMW is incredibly attractive. After all, the 3 series is the sport saloon that everybody else wants to emulate. Sure, the Infiniti will be more powerful, but it is a first generation vehicle with limited feedback... besides, I think it's quite unattractive. The 330 is an excellent choice for an driving enthusiast and comfort seekers alike.

the acura's front could be better i always thought. the bmw shape i don't find any faults with. yep acura's cheaper but i would hope the bmw has better overall reliability and driving experience.

I like Honda for what they can come up with, but given the choices i'd rather go for the BMW. It may not be as fast in a straight line but out of the box it's a more fun car to drive than the Type-S.

However, gotta give props to the CL for a very full-featured car at the price it's going for. Note to everyone though, check out their forums at Acura-TL/CL. There seems to be a trend on transmission failures going on.

Btw, got more photo's up of the G35 Coupe from the NY show. Click on linky on my sig. (G35coupe > Forums)

My neighbor just traded in his M3 for a G35 (had a baby). It looks kind of funky to me though. Looks kind of like a Civic on roids.

Anyhow, BMW is nice but way more expensive than the CL. If price is no difference get the BMW, if not then get the CL.

Yo,
That's a good quandry to be in, BMW 330ci versus Acura CL-S.

Honestly, you can't lose with either car. It's a matter of taste.

The only thing really separating the two is initial cost and total cost of ownership (TCO); the Acura will cost you less money to buy and is cheaper to maintain.

The BMW retails for $36K (including delivery), but that's without any options. More realistic would be $38 - $40K.

The Acura retails for $31K (including delivery), and that's with everything except the Navigation System.
