What is the probability? Anyone have a hard number or paper to back it up? (Some kind of survey, maybe?)

This is high school science for you guys... Just use Google. We aren't a search engine.

Yeah, but that's not absolutely true. That's why I want the odds.

There's plenty of cases where people have had blue eyed parents and a non-blue eyed child. I was hoping for numbers.

Eye color is not really binary though, hence the recessive trait model oversimplifies the actual process a bit. I'm not sure if the process that determines eye color has been discovered yet, but I'm pretty sure that there's a rather.complex gene behind it, or multiple ones even, plus a whole lot of protein biology that may not necessarily be rvident.from the genome.

This is a good explanation for what's going on. That does a decent job of explaining some of the factors, but there are at least 8 genes involved. Ultimately there is no chart or calculator which can provide an answer as it's too complex.

Just ask your parents if you are adopted or not. It's not a big deal.

It isn't very common for two blue eyed parents to have a brown eyed child, while it DOES happen, it is fairly uncommon. It would also depend what alleles the parents possess, they can be straight up blue only alleles, or a mix and they just happen to exhibit the blue colour. If they were a mix then they would more easily have a brown eyed child.

Basically, tons of different factors involved to give you any meaningful numbers.

genetics are funny.

my mom has blue eyes and my dad has brown eyes... odds are that both my sister and I would have brown eyes, but somehow my sister has blue eyes and I have green eyes.

don't know what color my grandparents eyes were, but I know that green is somewhere in the family because my dad's brother has blonde hair/green eyes like me even though all the other brothers are dark brown hair/brown eyes.

thought I was adopted for years or that my mom had an affair with my uncle, since we look exactly alike, but the timeline just doesn't match up (he was deployed overseas)

I'm green eyed, my wife is brown eyed, my son ended up with blue eyes.

Yeah, we take some flack for that one!

anything other than brown eyes is a failed attempt to make a brown eye

in a few 100 years, only brown eyes will be left

If dad had any recent blue eyed relatives its pretty much a 50/50 chance your parent's kids will have light colored eyes. That's exactly what happened with my family. Mom's blue (both parents), dad's brown (both parents), but his grandfather had blue eyes. Two of us kids had blue eyes, two had brown.

Envy. Anyway, that'll never happen. Too many people with the gene.

All children regardless of their parents' eye color will have at least one brown eye :)
