My doctor recommends HIV tests for everyone on a yearly basis regardless of risk factors. It's not a big deal.

I usually get a perfunctory, peace-of-mind test when I'm entering into an exclusive relationship with someone regardless of how low-risk my behavior had been prior to that (because I generally don't have full-on sex outside of exclusive relationships... my hookup/one-night-stand activities are typically limited to third base)

So how much did it cost? Had this done recently up here and didn't cost me anything, so just interested to hear what the price would be for it.

I shall let you know when I get the bill. He said something about insurance paying $300 a year or something for blood tests (or something like that), so I got an HIV and hep c and a general blood test (I think...everything besides cholesterol).

Malnutrition and std's? You live in Cambodia or what?

Just go back up there and read what you wrote. STD's and malnutrition, the only place on earth you will find those two words in the same sentence is Ethiopia.

This place is getting god damn weird.
 
I get a blood test every month with lipid, liver, electrolyte panels and some other stuff and its completely covered by insurance. Yeehaw.
 
Just go down and give blood, they will test it for free. If it is a clean you will help save a life and if it isn't you will know.

I've never heard of someone getting hepatitis C for 'no reason'. Though, it is possible to get Hep C from microabrasions in feet stepping where blood from someone with Hep C has been.

Unless your sexual practices are quite flaky there shouldn't be a need to get an STD screen more than at most once a year.

And have you had the cause of the iron deficiency properly investigated?

bad eating habits with a touch of anorexia and a hatred of iron supplements.

I only specifically go in for STD tests when I'm entering into a new relationship, kind of as a perfunctory gesture. I've never tested positive for any and my sex practices are pretty safe; I'd almost never go past third base with a casual hookup.

but it doesn't hurt to get it done while I'm going into the doctor's office to pee in a cup and get blood drawn anyways.

You really shouldn't be on accutane any longer than absolutely necessary. I'm presuming you use it for acne; as soon as it gets under control you should stop it and use something else to keep it at maintenance.
 
I recently got a test to check my cholesterol levels, because I've been eating over a dozen eggs a week for about a year now. Anyway, I took the test on a Friday, and got the results back the following Tuesday. My tests came back as excellent all across the scale. Now I'm up to... ~21 a week and I'll probably get another test a year from now just to be sure. Before anyone asks why so many - two in my pancakes every morning (14 a week) and at least one, maybe two in the lunch salad five times a week.

Its a 6 month course and I am just about to complete 2 months. I plan to complete the course as long as my doctor gives the okay. Hopefully that takes care of it and no more than that is necessary.

As is stated in the "other first of the week thread", first of the week (in this context) means anywhere from Monday morning until Tuesday at close of business.
