Blood test time

So I was reading about hepatitis c and HIV and got paranoid and convinced I have them (despite having 0 risk factors since im a nerd). Plus I haven't been to the doc in a long while.

How much could I expect to pay for a blood test like this?

Couple hundred isn't too bad. I have insurance though, wonder how much if any they'll cover.

I have to get a blood test for Diabetic reasons every 6 months and with insurance it ranges from 150-200 depending if they do a lipid panel too.

I've never paid for an HIV test. STD screening is covered under my basic health plan (along with cholesterol tests and stuff like that.)

I mean, ok, there's an office visit copay, and I pay premiums, so I paid for them, but you know what I mean.

I was also in an emergency room one night, and some medical students from the local university were doing an AIDS study. That one was free. The stitches and painkillers cost $3k. Laughter OL.

I get pretty regular blood testing (for STD's and malnutrition)... 100% covered by insurance, as the tests are ordered by my primary care physician.

i think it costs like $30 at planned parenthood.

Not to put you off testing (if it'll put your mind at rest) but AIDs is pretty difficult to catch. You have to do something to catch it and really dodgy porn doesn't count. ;-)

try to stop worrying and enjoy life.

maybe he was buttsecksing, I hear it's easy to catch like that

I'm more worried about hepatitis c just cuz it's so infectious and a lot of people get it for no reason lol. Guess it'll be money well spent of it puts my mind at peace.

I'd suggest educating yourself about Hep. C. Unless you've gotten questionable drug transfusions or are sharing needles with someone your risks of contracting it are minimal.

Thanks, I always thought they just sent you a letter.
I guess you could ask them if you needed physical verification.

it probably depends on the practice. my doctor's office called, spoke with me, and confirmed that all the tests came back negative.

presumably if something was positive they would have called and asked me to schedule a follow-up appointment.

Got it, thanks for the info. I'm gonna feel like such a tool asking for a test when I have no risk factors associated with the disease in question. THEN I'm gonna be nervous until I get the results back.

at least you'll know

I usually get a perfunctory, peace-of-mind test when I'm entering into an exclusive relationship with someone regardless of how low-risk my behavior had been prior to that (because I generally don't have full-on sex outside of exclusive relationships... my hookup/one-night-stand activities are typically limited to third base)
