I pay taxes but so does everyone else, so in the end, I don't really anything extra if I need any kind of medical help.

Are you friggin nuts? They tried that, paying for blood donations, and guess what type of people showed up to give their blood? Scumbuckets, alcoholics, drug addicts, bums... just the type of people you want filling up the blood banks. : /I'll start donating when they start paying me for the damn blood. No $$, no blood. The hospitals make a killing from donated blood.

How much would a pint of blood be worth if you needed it to stop from bleeding to death? It would be nice to be so naive again. You must be really young. If this whole "chain" of blood is a donation then why does the hospital charge you $300 a pint when you need it? It sure can't cost that much to process it and get it to the hospital, can it?
There are companies making billions off of donated blood people. It has become a scam over the last several decades. Like everything else no one sees it or asks the tough questions so it is mostly ignored. The recipient gets gouged on something that was donated originally....someone sure is getting rich. Who are you actually donating to?
Stop thinking with your emotions. Blood is just another area of health care where costs have gotten completely out of control yet people defend it without even understanding what is actually happening.
It's how many hemophiliacs got HIV. Sad, really.Hepatitis blood! D: They like high schoolers blood, all clean and pure!
I'm not donating. It's a multi billion dollar industry. They will shove blood in you any way they can to make a profit. "Sure give us your blood for free or dirt cheap and we'll sell it for a ridiculous profit!". It's also keeping back bloodless surgery efforts which can be much much safer and problem free. And blood alternatives. People are so brainwashed into giving their blood like it every humans obligation and makes you a saint.
Sure there are some people who have good intentions but don't think for a second it's not a massive commercialized dollar endeavor. And that there aren't actually alternatives. They don't want to educate people on that though because it's more profitable and easier just to funnel some blood into you. Red gold for them.
I remember the last time I gave blood. I told them that previously, the blood was taken from my right (dominant) arm because the vein was very easy to find. Well, some person in their infinite wisdom decided to go for my left arm that time and I had the wonderful experience of having them MOVE THE NEEDLE around in my arm as they tried to find the vein.
After that failed attempt they resorted back to my right arm and everything went fine from there. My left arm was sore as shit from that though, and I got to walk around with bright neon pink bandages on each elbow. Fuckers.
Sorry to tell you this, but the waaaaambulance is busy taking care of someone with REAL problems.
It's a small price to pay for the opportunity to save someone's life. Man up.
As for those of you whining about how much donated blood costs, think for a second - if it's not too painful. That blood has to be tested to ensure the safety of the recipient. It has to be stored at the proper temperature, and transported to locations in need.
If that doesn't work for you, please visit your local hospitals and sign a form to refuse transfusions. That way, you won't have to be grateful to naive people like me who took the time out of our lives to try to help selfish fucks like you. And hopefully that blood will be there for someone who can put it to better use.
To those of you who have donated or will be doing so in the future, keep up the good work. You are greatly appreciated.
