Blix interview: No WMD's in Iraq!

Hans blix says in an interview given to Der Tagesspiegel in Germany, that he beleives there are no WMD
's in Iraq. He also says WMD's were the US justification for this war, and based on this the war was unjustified!

I don't really recall people in January slamming the UN for not helping Blix. Why does the UN owe Blix an apology?
Also, isn't saying its the UNs fault that Blix didn't find any WMDs when there are no WMDs to be found a bit odd?

1. - BS, there was plenty of blame heaped on the UN.
2. - They didn't give him the tools, authority, security he needed to thouroughly and effectively search.
3. - No, I never said they owe him an apology for not actually finding the WMD - you put the "finding" stipulation on it. See #2 If Blix had the freedom to search anywhere in Iraq without harassment from Saddam and still didn't find anything then there wouldn't have been a war But he wasn't able to search everywhere whenever he wanted. Saddam admitted to having such things and everyone in the UN agreed he had them at one time. So tell me where the oddity is now?

Blix had full access. What sites was he deneyed access to inspect? Saddam was doing some shady stuff as usual (can't fully interview scientists), but Blix could inspect whatever he wanted to.
So let me get this straight:
The UN is to blame because the inspections process was cut short bacause we couldn't wait any longer because Saddam was a direct threat to us with all his WMDs (the legality of the war was based on this reasoning). Now that we find that there were no WMDs to begin with(as of yet), the UN needs to apologize to Blix for not giving hime the tools, authority, and security to find the non-existent WMDs?? That's some twisted logic there.

No blix did not have full access. Inspectors NEVER had full access for over 10 years. Yeah, we cut the "inspections" short, if you call many years of inspections short

Again - you are not hearing me. If an "inspector" isn't given FULL access how can he state so difinitively that "there are no weapons"? How many palaces were "off limits"? or did you forget about those Or maybe you forgot how closely Saddam kept track of the "inspectors" and kept atleast one step ahead of them.

Oh and if that is such twisted logic then why did the UN even send inspectors in "to find" WMD since clearly there aren't any

Oh wait, I thought the UN PASSED MULTIPLE RESOLUTIONS STATING THAT HE MUST GET RID OF AND SHOW PROOF(of the destruction) OF HIS WMDs, but maybe that doesn't matter to you.

If you want to believe a murderer like Saddam instead of the US, UK, and UN go ahead, I won't stop you.

The inspectors found nothing, the military didn't find anything yet (I'm sure the military now has full access) and yet people still believe these weapons exist. Saddam isn't intimidating anyone now, and still no one has come forward to show proof these weapons exist. The Iraqi's bent over backwards for those inspectors, they wanted helicopters they got them, they wanted U2 flights they got them. Iraq gave in to every demand just to avoid war. Get over it, this war wasn't about weapons. There are dozens of countries that have those weapons and are run by people whose sanity can be questioned. Bush passed the point of no return long before the war even began. He would have looked real stupid if Blix didn't find anything and all those GIs sweating in the Kuwaiti desert would have to be recalled, so he rather not let that happen and attacked prematurely.

Maybe Bush knew all the weapons were gone and realized invading Iraq now would be a cakewalk. There are theories that the first Gulf War ended when it did because the US was afraid that those weapons would be used if they continued onward, and thats why Saddam claimed he won that war. Remove that threat and the country would be wide open and they can finish what they started.

You are woefully misinformed, ignorant or have a memory problem. I think the highest grade Blix ever gave Iraq for cooperation was a 'B'. They hardly gave in to anything. Helicopter flights had to file a flight plan, U2 flights were req'd to give 48 hour notice and no scientist was interviewed outside the country or without an Iraqi 'observer'.

Maybe Iraq should have let them fly all over like madmen and maybe when there are some midair collisions and some trigger happy Air Defense missile battery officer shoots the U2 out of the sky inspections would have been better? These are simple safety precautions. They can interview scientist now without any interference, they find anything? The scientist wanted the observers back then. Ever think the observer was there to prevent them from beating the hell out of the scientist, tossing him a hole and saying he confessed and then attack?

Yeah that must be it. The air traffic over Iraq or the U2's long history of being vulnerable to AA or SAM's and of course the UN inspectors who are infamous for their violent interrogation tactics.

This has been enlightening. Not so long ago there was a thread about Japan pretty much refusing to admit it's part in WWII. Now I see the same thing here.

Nationalists always justify anything their government does. It's not over though. Some of the more interesting things to come will be here before the end of the (shudder) second Bush term.
