Blender suggestions?

My daughter wants a new blender to be able to make smoothies, etc... She was thinking about a Nutri Bullet or Ninja. I'm thinking that buying a less expensive blender usually only holds you over until you buy a good blender. I don't have to have the most expensive, but I'm looking for quality.

I'm leaning towards the Breville Hemisphere Control Blender (http://www.cnet.com/products/breville-hemisphere-control-blender/)
I figure it's a fair price (around $200), seems to be well designed, well reviewed, etc. A lot of comments about how little stopping, scraping (the inside of the pitcher), and then starting again this blender needs. Clean up seems pretty easy also.

I was looking at the Vitamix Recertified blenders ($330 for a 5200), but I'm not sure it would be worth the extra money for what we'd use it for.

So, what would you guys suggest and why?

I went with a refub Vitamix a couple of years ago. I figured after having had a couple of cheaper blenders that (a) didn't last and (b) couldn't really handle heavy duty jobs it was time to pay the extra and get something I knew would work for everything. I have never felt the extra money wasn't justified. I have never had to stop the blender or scrape the inside. It just seems to blend anything.

I would personally spend the money on a Blendtec or Vitamix.

I personally have a Vitamix 5200 I bought at costco. it is a beast.

If you are willing to spend $200, how about this refurb Blendtec: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blendtec-TB...916?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item54169966b4

Good timing as this was posted today, it will likely sell out soon though so you may want to hurry.

Was just coming in to post that. I've had a good experience with my Blendtec over the past 5+ years.

Also, here are some ideas for protein smoothies you can forward over to her:

This.

Purchased a refurb Vitamix 5200 for like $200 and the thing has 5 yr warranty bumper to bumper and they pay shipping.....

I'll give you a 'for instance'.... This morning at 6am, I put a 6" carrot, 1 grapefruit, 1 orange, 1 banana, a 1 x 1" chunk of ginger, a half dozen frozen strawberries, a bit of yogurt and 2 inches of apple juice. Blends it into the smoothest drink ever. Think about all of the nutrients in this. Held me over til' about 10.

You can add whey protein, flax, bee pollen, chia, moringa, etc

I love my old Vitamix 5000. Blends anything I put in it and it's good for more than just smoothies. Be prepared for it to be noisy as hell.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I think I would likely have been happy with either a Vitamix or a Blendtec since they both seem to be top-of-the-line blenders. I missed out on the Bledtec deal @ ebay. I ended up ordering a Vitamix 6300 (Platinum) for less than $285 shipped (thanks RossMAN!).

All in all, I think I likely got a much better blender for less than $85 more. Thanks again to all. And, a special thanks to Kaido for the smoothie information.

Go with a Breville Hemisphere. Great blender and far cheaper than a Vitamix. Most of my friends who jumped on the smoothie bandwagon over the last year or two and purchased expensive Vitamix blenders no longer use them, so their $600 blenders are collecting dust nowadays. I have a Blendtec, and must admit I only make a smoothie maybe once or twice a month now compared to a year ago when I was making one a day.

Ummm... Thanks for your suggestion but like I said I already ordered a Factory Refurbished Vitamix. As it ends up, it wasn't much more than the Hemisphere.

FWIW: I haven't had the chance to really try out the Vitamix lately. Hopefully, I can play with it tomorrow.
