If this is not the correct forum for tech issues, I'm sorry. What is the best place?
I use a program called blender (blender.org) a 3d modeling program that is free. I'm trying to get blender to run on my new computer with a HD 4850, but it crashes on startup.
Here's the funny thing. If I reinstall Catalyst 8.8 (the lastest display drivers for my card) and then choose NOT to reboot after the installation is finished, blender will work without having any problems. But as soon as I reboot, blender goes back to crashing imediately. This can be repeated indefinately, and is a walkaround, except it takes about a minute to install the drivers, and I don't really want to do that every time.
Any ideas what installing the drivers changes that allows blender to work? And then any idea what rebooting changes to cause the crashing again?
If anyone wants to get into the details, I'll post them, but I'm nearly certain it's related to the GPU and it's display drivers given the situation above.
Thanks for any help or tips.
