Its sad that people have no respect anymore. Religious symbolism is important as representations of those things adored in the name of God. The Grail / Chalice that is used during mass to administer the consecrated Blood of Christ should not be used for getting drunk (which in itself is wrong). The monstrace is also used to hold the Host and not for decorations a 3 year old would make.
God should've made us resistant to negative effects of a very common and natural substance.
Just one more thing in the llllooooong list of design flaws from a supposedly perfect designer.

"NO! You're being flawed! Just like I designed you to be! Stop it! Bad! I know that I made some of these flaws enjoyable to experience and live with, but...I just enjoy doing that."

I find it encouraging that people are finally moving away from pointless traditions and instead trying to find knowledge. The trivializing of pointless objects and rituals is just one more step to real enlightenment.
If one person engages in some weird, obsessive behavior, it's a mental disorder.
If many people engage in some weird, obsessive behavior, it's a beloved tradition.

Ok, I have to admit that was funny. But immortality is not for the physical body but the spiritual one.

God bless. ():)

Seriously, even if he showed up magically right in front of me, and gave me no doubt of his divinity, I'd honestly (very honestly here) tell him to shove it because he's a massive prick if half of what is preached is remotely true.

"Hey, here's all these awesome things. NO TOUCH! I know I made it so that you'd feel really, really good about it all, but I said NO TOUCH! Hey! HEY! I said stop that! YOU SHALL BURN FOR THIS!"

You know, if this guy exists, I think he's suffering from multiple personalities or mentally incompetent. The former because he could be both God and Satan and not ever knowing it, building us from two different angles without realizing it at all; the latter, because he could simply keep forgetting what he was doing the entire time, think it sounded great, than the next day forgot what he did yesterday and declare all of those things bad, never once understanding he made it all happen under his own power.

If he punishes me for calling him the biggest prick of the *known* universe, so be it. Somebody's gotta take a stand to all that debauchery. And I've never been a fan of self-proclaimed emperors and kings. I like a say in these matters, even if nobody listens. :(

I find it refreshing that the totems of ritual cannibalism are being converted to a more wholesome use.

That all goes back to Adam and Eve. God said do not eat from the Tree of Knowledge and they were tempted to do it anyway.

The choice is between obeying God and enjoying paradise (which is not a bad thing, thats for sure!), or choosing to do as you please and suffer the consequences whatever they may be (prison / hell or both).

You are not supposed to take recreational drugs. Their allure is temporary pleasure but detrimental in one way or the other to your body and life. Drug dealers take it one step further buy profiting on tempting and providing drugs to others. So they have caused / aided others to do wrong and made some blood money to boot. What a mess. :(

God knew they would do it...so why did it put the tree there in the first place?

God knows we will do a lot of things and WARNS us ahead of time not to do it. I have received those warnings myself and have been kept from trouble.

Even though I know you are atheist, have you ever heard what would happen in the future if you decided to do something? I have. And it wasnt just for bad things but for good things too. You are missing out if you havent. ():)

So, why did god condemn you to Hell then?

I dont consider Earth to be hell. Hell is permanent separation from God for eternity. Since God is love, Id imagine that would be a pretty bad thing. One day we will either go to heaven, hell or purgatory.

Earth is no walk in the park and truth be told things could be better for me, but that is the case for pretty much everyone on the planet.

God purposely condemned Humanity through Adam. Why would such a being do such a thing?

This is an absolutely utterly ridiculous case of people not understanding their own religion.

Cups are just cups UNTIL they are consecrated by a priest.

At that point they take on special religious significance, basically because there's an agreed-upon social convention that says these items are set aside for special use as a reminder to believers that God is something special; treating stuff associated with God as special helps people get into a reverent mindset. That's pretty much the entire practical purpose of consecration and treating consecrated items with respect. (We could go into the theological aspects but it would be a waste of time.)

Anything consecrated that is going to be discarded actually gets deconsecrated. The special item used as part of the religious rituals goes back to just being a cup. Nothing offensive about it.

If this restaurant was stealing consecrated objects and using them for everyday tasks, the guy would have a right to feel like they were being profaned. Since they are simply taking non-consecrated/de-consecrated items, the guy is NUTS (even by religious standards, don't flame me) to treat these items any differently than any other ordinary object.

Wouldn't it have been simpler not to condemn humanity in the first place?

Here's a fun thought: An extremely advanced alien culture exists, and they also have insane people.
One of those insane people created a little Universe. A terribly bizarre place, where space and time themselves get warped by matter, where most of the volume is completely empty, and where things like Carrot Top can exist.
Then he convinced a tiny group of life forms on a tiny ball of rock that he's the good master of everything, and anything bad that happens is totally not his fault.

Wouldn't it have been simpler not to condemn humanity in the first place?
He has to set the example of punishing billions of people for a minor transgression that they didn't commit.

(And we're back to the design-flaw issue again - he created creatures which were prone to being tempted by things, then went ahead with the first sting operation in history, and then acted as judge and jury for the rest of the species that hadn't even been born yet. And people trust this guy to be benevolent and such.)

I am not a Christian, and the symbols of Christianity are meaningless to me. I will cheerfully blaspheme your religion, and there's fuck all you can do about it.

And you feel this way because clearly you don't respect others and other's traditions and religious beliefs. For example, I would never ever think of speaking ill of Jewish people and their customs or Muslims or anyone else's religions because it would be considered rude and disrepectful. It is people (and I use the term loosely) like you who lack the respect and decency towards others who do find these items sacred and a part of their religion. What do you possibly have to gain by the attitude you've shown here? You sound like a prepubescent punk who thinks the world revolves around him.

I pity you.

Would you speak ill of people who like to read Harry Potter? What about people who are interested in Man to boy love (NAMBLA). Respect is earned, not given. Believing in fantasy doesn't deserve a special status because it's a old belief.
