Its sad that people have no respect anymore. Religious symbolism is important as representations of those things adored in the name of God. The Grail / Chalice that is used during mass to administer the consecrated Blood of Christ should not be used for getting drunk (which in itself is wrong). The monstrace is also used to hold the Host and not for decorations a 3 year old would make.

Yeah, if you are Catholic/Religious, maybe the silly cups and decorations will have intrinsic meaning and sacredness. But I think I am correct in assuming the barkeep and patrons are not exactly the most pious of the bunch. And to those that are not, the silly cups and decorations are just that, silly cups and decorations.

Stop imposing your own beliefs on others, and expecting others to treat your own idols as if it was theirs. If I worshiped chairs, it would be ridiculous to demand everyone not to sit on chairs because it is blasphemous to me.

Also, now I really, really, want to visit that bar.

I believe the American flag should not be burned in protest. Do you? This silly rag is a symbol of our country and should be respected even if you hate this country. Same thing for these artifacts.

I personally do not believe it should be burned in protest, and I have great respect for our flag. That being said, if someone else wants to burn it, its their own prerogative. I simply won't participate.

That bar and its owners are disgusting.

I find it encouraging that people are finally moving away from pointless traditions and instead trying to find knowledge. The trivializing of pointless objects and rituals is just one more step to real enlightenment.

I've been to Ale Mary's with an ex-girlfriend of mine who was an observant Catholic & she chuckled at the decorations. There are also priests who've gone & didn't care. The decorations that they have were mostly sold by churches that were closing & decided to put them on e-Bay. If MeowCat wants to get pissy at anyone then the people who made that decision are the ones to blame.

BTW, this sort of nonsense is why some protestants think that Catholicism is borderline idolatry.

Oh yeah, anyone who's from Baltimore should get a chuckle out of where he says "Mustached Smiley Face Seems Particularly Malevolent."

Oh no, malevolent Mister Boh!

The comments section has turned into one of the best internet meltdowns I've seen in a long time. It includes such gems as:

As far as your knowledge about Cardinal O'Brien, I think you're a little off there as well. Cardinal O'Brien is what is known as a neo-conservative prelate. As military Archdiocese Bishop, he ignored Liturgical abuses when he was in charge, but then, he didn't close down the Jesuit school near your blasphemous bar of choice, either.

So in addition to hating the bar he hates the Jesuits and thinks he knows more about blasphemy than a bishop.

To start with, I personally don't believe in free speech.

At least he's honest about it.

I think rude and depraved individuals like the individuals who own this bar should be dealt with on the QT by large, persuasive and brutish men.

Advocating violence. Feel God's love!

I am not a Christian, and the symbols of Christianity are meaningless to me. I will cheerfully blaspheme your religion, and there's fuck all you can do about it.

The only thing about it that bothers me is it’s another example of you can only mock white christens. You could never make a bar like this that used another faith, as you’d be shut down as racist or whatever term they’d apply about being intolerant about their faith. People that believe in the whole Christ/God.. hey fair game!

Nobody is being mocked. Plenty of Catholics have gone to this bar and not been offended. Only uptight prissy bitches think it's offensive.

You want to talk about disrespect? I worship the Earth that those metals came from. The fact that you would take them and then turn them into such blasphemous tools for your own disgusting rituals offends me to the very core. May her volcanoes rain her blood down upon thee, Heathen!

Soooooo... you're saying you won't be my business partner for Mohammed's Titty Bar: 40 Virgins on Tap? I even made a signature cocktail, the suicide bomb. :( (Fill two highball glasses with Sam Adams, light two shots of Arak on fire, drop in the glasses and pound one after the other.)

no, I think it's more that the faithful of the "other" religions would likely blow-up the bar.

Then again, that blogger seems to have similar plans.

so, you know. the hopelessly faithful tied together in their identical lack of rationality

I imagine the person that wrote that scathing review never stopped to think about how ridiculous all of things are. Chalices that turn wine into blood when you drink from them? A big metal... thing... that has a cracker put it the center and then gets lifted up by a guy wearing a dress?

Seriously, they mock themselves by maintaining those goofy traditions more than the bar ever could.

I hope these guys are still in business when I turn 21.
I think I know where I'll be ordering my first drink, as Fell's Point isn't too far away from me. :awe:
