lol, i saw this thread last night, read a couple posts, saw it was the usual 'Rap=cRap' arguments and just said forget it. i come back today, and see not much has changed. people can easily say that, but they have no reason or logic to back it up. the best ive heard is 'all this bling-bling'-crap. great, you just generalized about 10-15% of the whole hip hop genre who talk about that. you are force fed this MTV style hip hop, and because thats what your exposed to (kids in civics bumping the new g-unit album), you automatically assume if thats what everyone is playing, that all hip hop is of the bling-bling subject matter.
ive debated this topic numerous of times on these boards, and i understand the intolerance and ignorance towards the whole hip hop culture. i always believe 'to each his/her own'. i myself, enjoy the genre. just like i also enjoy rock, metal, jazz, the list goes on and on. i cant stand country, but that doesnt mean im going to go in a country thread and post crap in it, because i myself do not have great knowledge of the country music genre, and i dont have a valid argument or point to prove that country is terrible to my ears. so, thats my 2 cents. i dont expect anyone to change or outlook the genre differently because of what i said, but if you are going to knock it, familiarize yourself with the whole culture of it and look beyond whats being shoved down your throat, and then pass judgment.

btw, keep in mind that maynard james keenan, the lead singer of
tool and
a perfect circle did a song with rage against the machine, a rock/hip-hop group. and metallica, yes the whole band, did a song with ja rule. and imo, the song sounded like crap. but these people understand the culture brought forth by these artists, looked beyond their rock/metal barriers and did a collaboration with a hip hop artist. music is music, no matter how you slice it. pure and simple.
