blacks given poorer service while dining because of tipping stereotype

Thanks for the candid response, I'm glad to hear I'm thinking reasonably on this.

If I am working 2 or 3 other tables I will appreciate your independence so i can focus on the other tables that may need more attention. Because of that I would understand a smaller tip, I would expect to make up that loss from the other tables however.

I think we should get rid of tipping altogether. Then guess what? NO ONE HAS TO GIVE A FUCK ABOUT TIPPING.

Oh and adding a %18+ 'gratitude' tip as a mandatory charge is NOT A TIP. That's a service charge, and that's fucking bullshit. Just build it into the prices if you're going to charge that shit. Don't act as if it is something else.

That's right, increase the menu price 15-20% and give up on of the way you the customer can actually show your opinion about service received.

Do online reviews if you really want to show your opinion... Or, you know, not go to the fucking restaurant.

it would be great if they outlawed it altogether. like sorcery and witchcraft. we'd gather these tippers and bring them to justice. you'd still have the occassional loon that would try to tip in secrecy.

when tipping I dont show my opinion on the restaurant as a whole. I am showing my appreciation for the service my waiter/waitress has given me.

Depends on which arm, may have to tip him left. :awe:

After reading this thread yesterday, I spoke with a friend that is a server and in her experience, Indians were the worst tippers. She also said that Indian customers tend to have more special food needs i.e. vegetarian options, no pork, water no ice, etc.

i've heard that too actually.

like indians do not do tips in their country i suppose.

i heard from a friend the 1 armed guy got the crap beat out of him by some guys in the bathroom and they stole his tip jar so maybe im extra nice after i heard that story. i was there around xmas last year and gave him liek $20. i dont know im a generous guy i guess.

Lol this.... The thread should end here.

I worked for a liquor store in high school and used to deliver liquor/beer/wine/kegs/glassware/ice etc... Whatever the customer needed to hook up a party, it would get loaded into a van and delivered. I also would have no idea of the race of the customer until I saw them face to face at the party location. Blacks rarely ever tipped me despite also being capable of throwing some big drinking parties. Sometimes it would take over an hour to unload and set everything up. When you see a high school kid loading and carrying full kegs, sometimes up stairs with a hand truck, even going through the task of setting the keg on ice in a tub and tapping it and then don't tip, then you are just a cheap piece of shit.

We also got stiffed on tip at the end of the party, next day. All of the aforementioned items needed to be picked up as well at the end of the party, loaded in the van and returned to the store. The black customers quickly developed the reputation in the liquor store and none of the employees wanted to deliver to them. We never provided less than normal service to any customer, even when they repeatedly stiffed us. It has to be a cultural thing that most of them adhere to or most of them are just cheap asses.

Complain to your employer, oh you will get fired? Get a better job. Get a better education. Why does the customer have to pay for a service TWICE? It's not the customer's fault your employer exploits you, it is yours. I'd say blacks are smarter with their money.

It doesn't matter when you go or how long you're there.
Pay up cheap fuck.

exactly. its part of the price. its customary. dont go to japan if you dont expect to possibly have to bow somewhere.

american's feel entitled to impose their own rules on a situation they dont like even if they know the correct way. its why the world hates us.

if you know you SHOUDL tip, then you shoudl be tipping. if you are ignorant about tipping you are just a dumbass. either way there is something wrong happening.

🙄 What about all those people who are waiting tables/serivce jobs while they are getting a better education? You know - like that part where he said 'while he was in highschool'? Or do you think getting a better education and or better job is somehow instant?

And you may you're not paying for the same thing twice - you pay once for the food+server base salary. The tip is for the server's time and effort - which you (generally) have not yet paid for

Your second half makes sense, but was overshadowed and shot dead by the stupidity of your first half.

Exactly, it sounds like a circular, chicken-or-egg, situation. If waiters give black people worse service because they expect poorer tips, black people will give poorer tips because they are used to getting bad service, thus ensuring poor service, and so on...

Definately not chicken or egg scenario.
Black people in generally are really bad tippers.
My sample size was pretty good working at Disney.

Also curious. Do black waiters avoid black people who don't tip? As I mentioned a strip club before I know some Asian strippers they tend to want to give dances to white guys since the ones with a thing for asian girls tip a ton... racial profiling is unfair but seems to pay off

Yes. It was funny.
The black servers had the same reaction when they got sat a black party.
This one black server used to always say, "why do they always gotta sit them in my section."

Is tipping normal outside America? I know they don't tip in Japan. Not sure about other places...

Didn't used to be but its spreading.
I know in Toronto, tipping is the norm but not much in other province.
I asked this one coupe from Germany and they told me that tipping was spreading.
I go back to Vietnam all the time and tipping is pretty much expected now.
In the big establishments, tipping is expected. Especially the bars/clubs etc..

I've been to both Italy and Spain, and tipping is not the norm. The price is what it is, unless you feel that you got exceptional service and you want to leave a few Euros in appreciation. I remember one night in Italy when we were out at a restaurant and had exceptional service. We left the waiter €20 and he wouldn't stop thanking us.

1%s strike again. They have customers fighting servers while they cut the latter's pay (expecting the customer to make up for it) and increase the price on the former. Genius.

Want a tip? Don't drink the water in Mexico.

tipping system is wrong to begin with. Why are owners given a break on paying their employees?

The way my personality is, I'd give good service because IT IS MY JOB. WTF.

Are you kidding? Your average restaraunt owner is not a "1%'er" by any means. Have you worked in a restaurant? The one I worked in took in several million dollars a year and after expenses, the two owners paid themselves a paltry $65K/year each - not exactly filthy stinking rich. Nearly every penny which came in went back into the business.

My point still stands. The servers should not be begging for tips. They should get a proper wage. The owner is abusing the workers with this wage setup and they are both screwing the government.

Which is a reflection of the restaurant itself (i.e. the people who hire those waiters/waitresses).
