Have you been to upstate New York?

Yes. For hiking and camping. It's pretty, and having actual terrain really helps. Ohio is flat with some rolling plains.

There are tons of backwards hicks in upstate new York. I know. I camped just last year there near a site with Confederate flags at their campsite.

But at least the terrain makes it pretty. And you know NYC is not that far away. Which helps a lot.

Side topic: I know someone in that area and talk to them regularly. It sounds like a shitty place to live and raise kids. He's home schooling now because of how terrible the school staff, teachers, and district admin was to them.

They're brown-skinned, and a rarity where they live and would go to school. They got treated like shit by everyone, including other kids. Just like most other people treat their father. Didn't sound too different than where I grew up.

I recall one day I was out at a driving range with my son who was 12 years old at the time. The tees are close to the main road. A truck full of white guys driving by and yelled "ni**ers" to me and my son. Loud enough to be clearly heard. I cannot begin to describe the welling up of rage and humiliation I felt at the time". Just imagine being a situation when you are trapped because you have to earn a living.

But hey, it's America and us black folk should just be grateful we are tolerated in it.

Yes, unfortunately most rural parts of America I have seen are like that, especially in the Midwest and parts of upstate NY I have been to. People seem to live in a bubble and are scared to death of anything that is different.

What these people did was so many levels ABOVE just being an asshole. Their racism led them to enjoy dehumanizing and degrading black people at their place of work. A place where those black people are captive.
