Somebody explain what Prince did to deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame ?

Black Sabbath is pretty much the start of Heavy Metal and actually had successful albums sales compared with Princes flops after Purple Rain.

But Prince's music still sucks when you play it backwards, and any relifreak can tell you that Black Sabbath' music becomes even more diabolical when you do that.

And besides that, the Hall of Fame is probably run by a total moron.

|-\\/ or whatever he calls himself now sucks, I agree with you he should be booted out of the HoF with gusto and Sabbath ushered in. Just goes to show you they have no idea what they're doing.

Actually, I believe Heavy Metal was started by Jethro Tull. But anyways, Sabbath rocks and should be in. They probably aren't due to some technicality. Prince is in because he made a big impact on the music scene, whether you like him or not.

What impact, he made Purple Rain and then disappeared. He's a one album wonder.

Ok someone fill me in on why this statement is funny. I live about 4 miles from Lake Minnetonka, and don't see any humor in the statement.

In Purple Rain the Babe strips and jumps in the Lake after Prince tells her "Why don't you purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka."

Prince was huge on the 80s music scene - his sound was the quintessential pop sound from that era. Denying that is denying fact. And the last time I checked, having an entire album do well, plus having a movie isn't exactly easy to do (during the 80s at least - today's music scene is a bit different). Not to mention that he did much more than Purple Rain. Albums like 1999 did well. Hell, the man even did the soundtrack for Batman.

Edit: And this is not making a statement on whether you have to like the music or not. This is just a statement of historical impact.

They may be, but I was referencing Jethro Tull in response to the comment that was made stating that Sabbath was the start of metal.

Pop references popular music. You do realize that rock can be contained within that, right?

he sold out the fillmore in SF a few months ago for several nights at $100 a pop, with no promotion or advertising. the tickets sold out in 6 minutes. there's a ton of "big" current acts that couldn't do that. even sabbath probably couldn't sell out that fast with no promotion and ticket prices that high.

his last few albums were indie releases, which is why they weren't promoted, but he's with Sony now and promoting a new album.

Prince is a pretty brilliant rock guitarist, and one of the most inventive, innovative minds in modern music. I tend to agree that Black Sabbath deserve a place in the hall of fame, though.

Prince DOMINATED the late 80's early 90's pop / rock music scene.

"The Prince who would be king" was an article written about him back then. also, you can't just gauge prince on his albums alone but also all the other singers he wrote music for.

Since nobody has actually addressed the real reason Sabbath isn't in the HOF, here it is:

They don't want to be, and have said they, particularly Ozzy, would refuse induction.

Speaking of why Prince is in and others aren't.......how in the hell is Van Halen not in? 2003 was their first year of eligibility, and they should have been an automatic, no-brainer.

I'm thinking that they already had the reunion with Sammy Hagar in the works and wanted to have an official tour, album, etc,...basically be back as a functioning band before their induction.

No way Prince or ZZ top deserves to be in before them.
