It's a joke because it's a twist on the onion article about obama. It's also a joke because without the connection to the article it's a crude and racist comment. However that still doesn't negate the fact that people are going to read it and find it racist as is even with the connection. You can insult someone then point out to them that your insult is a cleverly disguised joke and not meant to be taken as an insult at all, they should actually find it funny. That doesn't mean they still won't be insulted.

You know, I was in downtown Minneapolis last night. A black man asked me for some change, but he was pretty honest with his intentions. He told me he wanted to buy a blunt. I actually considered giving him $1 for his honesty, but figured it was a bad idea overall.
