Report: Black Eyed Peas to play Super Bowl halftime

Super Bowl Sunday is going to be a good, good night for the Black Eyed Peas. The hip-hop/dance group has been announced as the Super Bowl halftime performers at Cowboys Stadium on Feb. 6, 2011, according to Sports By Brooks.





Apparently Roger Goodell ran out of 60 plus rockers.

Really, you just can't win. You book a The Who or Springsteen and you get a band WAAAAAAY past their prime. You book a Black Eyed Peas and you get good music and performance, but the lyrics quoted above. You book a Weezer or Green Day and you get some good lyrics and performance, but 10 minutes of power chord progressions.

Ugh, Weezer.

Yea I'm sick of them getting old rock bands that majority of the people that watch it don't care about. Black Eye Peas are good for the Super Bowl because they are modern and popular and people will probably actually watch the performances for once.

Most of the people who watch the Super Bowl are not in a demographic that cares about the Black Eye Peas.

Note that those stats are fairly old though.

Asshole JJ, IMO, that was an awesome SB too, she's an overrated. dated, worn out MTV skank that almost stole the great performance of the Eagles and Patriots..

It's funny how people complain about top 10 artists.

For someone to say that there is no song the Black Eyed Peas have done that they didn't at least like somewhat is someone that's trying too hard to be hard.

Same with Janet Jackson.

Pretty good choice, you need an act that appeals to the widest demographic, people with terrible taste from ages 10-80. This fits the bill. You have to go lowest common denominator, because the general public is going to say "WTF is this" if the halftime features indie rock, art rock, electronica, death metal, or whatever else is mentioned in this thread.

The Super Bowl is so ridiculously overhyped that no one can live up to the halftime anyway. Just like the NFL decided many years ago that marching bands were too lame to show at halftime of the Super Bowl, the current halftime format has outlived its usefulness. Just show a 15 minute short film, commissioned specifically for game, with A-list actors and a top director. Or porn.
