Something definately fishy went on in Florida and too bad we don't have paper receipts. How can a state won by Gore during 2000 AND with a motivated voter base lose by 300k votes?? I don't see anything wrong in conducting an investigation into electronic voting or at least having 2 receipts printed out, one for polling station and one for you to take home for proof. Of course the Bush fan boys are going to get up in arms because he is their master.

I don't know why Gore didn't run again. He would have easily won all the states he won in 2000 plus Jeb wouldn't have stolen Florida from him.

If their goal is to ensure accountability and accuracy for future elections, then I am in favor. If their goal is to overturn the results of the elections we just had, then I am not.
I believe it's the former. Bev Harris's research into Diebold is what got many areas in CA to kick Diebold's BBV machines out or start the process of getting them out. I believe the same in Oregon, too.
Oregon has statewide vote-by-mail for every election since '98. Absolutely the best thing ever. You get your ballot in the mail weeks before the election, vote from the convenience and privacy of your own home, and then drop it off at the elections office (or local public library) or you could put a stamp on it and mail it in (not advised).
The address your ballot is mailed to must be the one you are registered to and it must be located inside the appropriate county and precinct, and names and address are verified against the DMV database to protect from duplication. Your ballot is placed inside a "secrecy envelope" which is then placed inside a barcoded envelope that you must sign, and all signatures are verified against the registration record. After registration and signatures are verified, the secrecy envelopes with ballots are removed and seperated in bulk from the signature envelopes. The process ensures accuracy in voting while guaranteeing the secrecy of the individual ballot.

And did I mention there is a complete audit-friendly paper trail unlike electronic voting?

I hope they uncover a voter fraud scandal that throws this country into political turmoil like it has never seen.

The Diebold machines were designed to be unaccountable; the potential for fraud is greatest with them.

Still living in the past. The state did not go to Gore except in the Dems dreams.

The voter base can pay lip service but never put up. Also, if the Dems wanted a better system, they could have put one in place. In Fla, each county sets its own methods.
Fla does not use a statewide polling method, nor did most other states.
