Voting without auditing. (Are we insane?)
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON Nov 3 2004 -- Did the voting machines trump exit polls? There?s a way to find out.

Black Box Voting (.ORG) is conducting the largest Freedom of Information action in history. At 8:30 p.m. Election Night, Black Box Voting blanketed the U.S. with the first in a series of public records requests, to obtain internal computer logs and other documents from 3,000 individual counties and townships. Networks called the election before anyone bothered to perform even the most rudimentary audit.

America: We have permission to say No to unaudited voting. It is our right.

Among the first requests sent to counties (with all kinds of voting systems -- optical scan, touch-screen, and punch card) is a formal records request for internal audit logs, polling place results slips, modem transmission logs, and computer trouble slips.

An earlier FOIA is more sensitive, and has not been disclosed here. We will notify you as soon as we can go public with it.

Such a request filed in King County, Washington on Sept. 15, following the primary election six weeks ago, uncovered an internal audit log containing a three-hour deletion on election night; ?trouble slips? revealing suspicious modem activity; and profound problems with security, including accidental disclosure of critically sensitive remote access information to poll workers, office personnel, and even, in a shocking blunder, to Black Box Voting activists.

Black Box Voting is a nonpartisan, nonprofit consumer protection group for elections. You may view the first volley of public records requests here: Freedom of Information requests here

Responses from public officials will be posted in the forum, is organized by state and county, so that any news organization or citizens group has access to the information. Black Box Voting will assist in analysis, by providing expertise in evaluating the records. Watch for the records online; Black Box Voting will be posting the results as they come in. And by the way, these are not free. The more donations we get, the more FOIAs we are empowered to do. Time's a'wasting.

We look forward to seeing you participate in this process. Join us in evaluating the previously undisclosed inside information about how our voting system works.

Not sure where this will go but Bev Harris is one of the key people who uncovered the faults and problems with Diebold and that Deibold has a programmer on its board that once wrote a back-door in a system for a law firm from which he embezzled a large sum of money.

This has nothing to do with verifying and everything to do with trying to find excuses and create conspiracy theories so they can claim bush was not the real winner. You think they are going to recheck the votes in California and New York? I doubt it.

If you honestly believe Bush won, why not let people make fools of themselves?

The answer is no one. Why? Because no one but the people who already believe Bush lost will believe them then. It changes nothing.

After the 2000 election, I'm surprised anyone trusts the vote count. Why would you trust it Crimson? Your party could be the victim one day of a major voter fraud, other than all those dead people who vote in Chicago. :)

A better question though, is what facts do you have that would lead you to believe one result over the other? With the country so divided, the possibility of fraud rises in my view. If people will pull guns on each other over politics they WILL steal votes. This is true for both parties. Too much is at stake.

Somethings fishy when overwhelming democratic counties in florida vote overwhelminging for republican.

Look at thins link and the numbers. How do you account for this reversal? And there is no way to verify.

Surprising Pattern of Florida's Election Results
http://ustogether.org/Florida_Election.htm

Look at the Percent Change columns and notice how it appears some counties show 100% voter participation by registered Republicans or even higher.

Interestingly the optical scan county results look WORSE than the touchscreens, in fact in many cases it looks like the vote choices are REVERSED!!!!!!!.

Baker county: 69.3% are registered democrats, 77.7% of the vote went to Bush.
Bradford county: 61.4% are registered democrats (only 28.3% republican), 69.6% of the vote went to Bush.
Calhoun county: 82.4% are registered democrats, 63.4% of the vote went to Bush.
Dixie county: 77.5% registered democrats, 68.8% of the vote went to Bush.
Lafayette county: 82.8% registered democrats, 74% of the vote went to Bush.

The list goes on. Basically, the entire optical scan list looks like the percentages are inverted. But having lived in Florida 25 years and being familiar with some of those areas, I am inclined to believe it is the registered voter counts, not the vote which are backwards.

I think Florida voted more so for Bush this year if only but to support him for his support during all of the Hurricanes that they have had this year.

This has nothing to with Kerry and or bush it is all about diebold. They started requisting the logs at 8:30 which is well before the election looked to be won by Bush.

And the fact that they elected Jeb, another Republican proves that they all changed their mind & wanted Kerry as pres...

If their goal is to ensure accountability and accuracy for future elections, then I am in favor. If their goal is to overturn the results of the elections we just had, then I am not.

I can accept that as a reason, but still, no paper trail, no audit, and no proof is disturbing to me at least.

I believe it's the former. Bev Harris's research into Diebold is what got many areas in CA to kick Diebold's BBV machines out or start the process of getting them out. I believe the same in Oregon, too.

If Democrats weren't too stupid to use punch card ballets, this wouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

I suggest that we have a poll tax to help pay for the election auditing. It should also be offshored to India to keep costs down.
