Bittorrent question, why am I uploading when I am downloading?

Just recently found the world of bittorrent and found a episode of 24 that I missed.
I am currently downloading it at a very slow pace but I appear to be uploading stuff at greater rate.
I dont have any files or folders shared or does this matter?

eg

download rate: 19 kib/s downloaded 67.6 M
upload rate 51kib/s uploaded 115 M

can you resume a download without using a manager?

peace

You are sending the parts of the file that you already have. If you have 50% of this episode, it's sending that 50% that you have to others.

if you let it sit there long enough, your d/l speeds will pass the u/l speeds
it always does for me.

Also, it's a good idea to leave BT d/l's open for awhile after you grab something. I usually leave it open overnight or during work hours so others can grab it.

You'd think that people would at least read the first paragraph or so about a new piece of software before installing it on their machines.

Nah, why should I waste my bandwidth so someone can steal!

If I used bittorrent ;) once my download is complete why should I care about anyone else. I agree if everyone thought like I did it wouldn't work, but if I'm the only one it's all good.

experimental torrent looks very interesting.

It however states that the download speed is proportional to the upload speed.
Now does this mean as you increase the upload the download increases (directly) or as you decrease the upload the download will increase (inversely)?

anyone care to answer if i stop the download and press the link agian will it resume from the downloaded part or does it restart from the begining?

AT LEAST leave Bittorrent on while your watching what you've just downloaded.

On my DSL at home, uploading fast kills my download. In the dorms, it's more the other way... some clients won't upload to you faster than you are uploading to help fight leeches. I generally set my upload speed limit a little over my current download speed - I'm limited to 1GB per day of uploading, and if I leave it on unlimited, I burn through my upload in a few minutes and can't finish the download.

Bittorrent has no central server - if you didn't upload while you downloaded, nobody woudl be able to download anything.

Everytime I think about getting one of the other downloaders (ie experimental), I feel bad. I mean, you really should be uploading as much as possible to help out people. Don't leech.
