Bird attacks cat, bad idea

I'm conflicted. Cats and mockingbirds are a couple of my favorite things. While it's great watching cats hunt, I don't think I like watching them hunt mockingbirds.

Somehow I think this was the mockingbird's fault, not the cat's.

I love it when my dog catches a cat,Same as the video but more blood.
Alot more noise too.

The last time a dog killed one of our cats (in our own yard), the only reason it lived was I didn't get outside in time. At least the owners offered to kick in for the vet bills..didn't save poor Jake, though. He was my little sister's cat. 🙁

I would have happily filled that dog full of holes. You'd better keep your animal contained within your property.

Sure, but the cat was near the birds nest. The mockingbird wasn't just fucking with the cat for the lawls. That's a big reason I like mockingbirds. Aside from their incredible song repertoire, they're absolutely fearless defending the nest. Quite UNLIKE that filthy scavenger shown above. They're terrified of everything, and steal more food than they hunt. A disgraceful national bird :^S

Sounds about right now that you mention it.

Fucking retard cameraman should have stepped in and either shoo the cat away from the bird's nest or (if possible) save the bird once the cat had it in its mouth.

Poor bird.

You're watching Darwin in action. The bird built it's nest in a poor location where predators could get to it. Now the bird and offspring won't be contributing to the gene pool anymore.

Robins do the same thing here. Chased my poor kitty when she got close to the nest. Of course they are all tough when there is shrubbery nearby. Out in the open, where my cat would be in control was a whole new ball game.

She was a great hunter, but usually went after mice rather than birds.

My dog was on my property in a fenced in area,The cat on the other hand was not and my dog does not like trespassers lol.

Weird for the bird to keep attacking the cat. Was the cat after something in the bushes?

Do you live under a rock? A bird attacking a cat is not weird. Many species do exactly what that bird was doing to cats AND people. Mockingbirds are some of the worst offenders.

yeah. bald eagles are worthless scavengers. The Golden is quite sublime.

But my favorite bird, and arguably the greatest hunter anywhere: the Peregrine falcon. that thing is so fucking badass.

who is the guy that would do the annual update for his cat's kills? and does he do that anymore?

that was one of my favorite bits around here.

🙁

I saw 2 English Sparrows harassing a Robin on my neighbour's lawn years ago.

They would fly around him and disturb his worm hunting. They even took turns tugging on his tail. It was one of the strangest things I have seen . I am not sure what their point was though. They don't eat the same foods. There was no nest nearby. They were just pestering the Robin for no reason. The Robin eventually snapped and attacked the sparrows.

One of my secret, strange desires is to take up falconing as a hobby.

😱

I believe that the peregrine in its dive has been clocked as the fastest animal on the planet.

A week or so ago in the hummingbird thread I asked if there were any Falconers here. I think that would just be about the greatest hobby one could have. Something about having a giant bird of prey at your command just speaks to me and calls my name!

EDIT: yep, there are websites for that:

That is my understanding as well, something like 150-200 mph in full dive mode. However, I recently learned the fastest muscle movement of any animal belongs to the trapjaw ant. It snaps its mandible from an 180 degree angle to shut at over 140 mph. I think it gets owned in this video however.

This (monster bug wars) is a great show BTW, just started season 2 on the Science Channel.

what's with the stupid sound effects? Ants don't make sounds when caught.

otherwise a cool video.

Funny you should mention that, they are absolutely horrible. The first season did not have them, or at least not so much that I don't remember them. Other than that it is a fascinating series. They will have an 8" poisonous centipede fight a wolf spider or whatnot, along with the details on each insects behavior, lifecycle, habitat, etc. Season 2 just started, I think that was part of the second show.

To kill a mockingbird great book . I have one hunter cat. He brings birds and squirrels rabbits and snake home . Strange cat . Has never made the kill.

haha nice video, once i muted it 😛

WOWWWW HE CAUGHT IT, BOOM, 1 , 2, 3, 4 ..

what is this guy like 4 yrs old
