Doesn't take a whole lot of the special ammo types to bring one down, and considering that i don't waste the special ammo on splicers (they're too easy to kill with regular ammo), I have to do SOMETHING with all that special ammo I collect. ;) I've actually had to pass up frag grenades and a ton of armor-piercing pistol ammo.

same way with me. I take down BDs so easy since I never use my good ammo except for them. Couple of frag grenades and some shotgun blasts and they go down quick.

*************SPOILER****************

Is it just me or is it a lot less cool being a big daddy than it seems like it should be? 25% less damage? Thats all you get? meh. And the last boss was way too easy. I killed him the first time w/o dieing or using more than 3 health kits. Hell, big daddies are harder to kill.

All that said, it was an outstanding game!

I just beat the game also, very good! though I must say it gets less scary as you get near the end.

I now need to play through it again and get the research achievements, plus rescue all the little girls instead of harvesting them all :D :D

I just killed an Elite Bouncer by laying down three proximity mines between me and him. Then I shot him with 4 shots of electric buck, he hit the mines and it took one frag grenade to finish him off. I don't even think he hurt me.

****** SPOILER *******
The first time I encountered a splicer who was "playing" dead I about pissed my pants when he started moving.

What difficulty you guy playing on? I'm playing on hard with no auto aim. & let me say its a BITCH to hit some splicers with the machine gun & pistol.

The elite bouncers are hardcore... I don't even want to meet an elite rosie, but I think I'm about to right now.

I am definitely going to be a wrench jockey the 2nd time around. Doubling & tripling up on those plasmids will make you a melee beast!!!

This is one of the greatest games I've ever played... work of art. Voice acting, style, gameplay...everything is sick.

I'm playing on medium/normal/default. I'm not very good at console FPS.

Does anyone else start reciting The Raven in your head when you end up in a Vitachamber?

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my vitachamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my vitachamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

So am I correct that there is essentially no penalty for being killed? It seems like you get placed back at the nearest Vitachamber, none the worse for wear, regardless of when or how you die. On some level I like this - it suggests that the designers are confident enough in the integrity of the game universe and the quality of the gameplay not to waste the player's time through artificially high difficulty - but it's certainly unusual to impose no cost at all for dying in combat.

In the later levels the vita chambers are more rare, so it is a pain when you die.

*** MINOR SPOILER ***
I don't know what the criteria are for getting each ending, but I harvested 5 or 6 little sisters and rescued the rest. I was scolded for this. The scene after the sub went to the surface was what I thought was weird.

So far I like the houdini splicers, those guys are freaking hillarious. This game is so awesome, the only thing that annoys me is I had to lower the beautiful graphics. I'm going to have to play this game again when I get a new computer.

There must just be 2 endings then? I'm playing through again to rescue all the little sisters. I harvested all of them the first play through. I got the same ending: the sub on the surface and the splicers start attacking :D

Hopefully no one reads this thread before playing the game/beating it because there are tons of spoilers.

Oh, and on my second play through I finally found that splicer in the medical section that appears right behind you in the smoke. I don't how how I missed that room on my first time through. But I will say that that dude scared the shit right out of me. He doesn't even attack, just stands there a few inches away. Once I walked into that room and saw the smoke, I KNEW that was the room you guys were talking about, but I never saw a splicer so I thought I must have killed him already. Man what a good game.

Overall the game is much less scary the second time around, but that episode brought back the original fear :D

*** BIG SPOILER ABOUT THE ENDING ***
When the submarine went to the surface, that was supposed to be present day, right? And what was the deal with the missile? And the spot where the sub came up - was that the lighthouse? I don't remember if I saw the lighthouse at the end, but thinking back to the beginning of the game I don't recall the lighthouse area looking like that. Man, I don't remember what I saw... maybe someone put the ending on Youtube.

Edit: Found the "good" ending on Youtube. Better than the "bad" ending I think
Edit2: OK, I found the "bad" ending and I get it now. The sub wasn't from Rapture. The splicers went to the surface in bathyspheres, attacked the sub, took it over and apparently were going to launch a missile.

Arrgh, game froze on me last night about 45 min after my last save. Looks like my console may be one of the lucky 33% again.

How do you get the "good" ending ? Is simply rescuing all the LS enough ?

************SPOILERS TOO (Beat the game) ***********************

I saved every little sister (plus one extra...there was a glitch and I saved 4 when there were only 3 in one level...) and the ending I got was going to the surface, saving them, them getting married, etc.

I also got 100 gamerscore for saving them all. Did you get any gamerscore if you didnt save them?

When I beat Fontaine, they all came out of their little wall-hole things and finished him off. Did that happen if you didnt save them?

I killed them all on my first play-through. They did come out and stab him with their needles, but after that they scold you and tell you that you were bad. Then some bathospheres surface near a submarine floating on the surface and splicers jump out and kill the men. It then shows a nuclear missile.

Thanks for the info. Just found some (crappy) videoes of the other endings.

Was anyone else kinda mad that the ending was CG? It took me out of the game to be honest, because it looked pretty different. I much rather would have had it in real time like the rest of the game

***WARNING - MINOR SPOILERS BELOW***

I had quite a marathon of Bioshock yesterday - I am not done but I think I must be getting pretty close (I got the achievement for dealing with all the Little Sisters, and am now in a BD suite and escorting a LS to Fontaine's office. I continue to be incredibly impressed with the game artistically and technologically. They have been sufficiently clever in laying out the controls that I can't help but wonder whether the PC version could be as good from a control standpoint. I will say, though, that there is a certain sameness to the gameplay - after a while it starts to feel pretty repetitive. To some extent I think that is endemic to the underwater setting - they can't really do anything to replicate that great feeling in the original HL when you finally emerge from underground into the daylight sun.

Also, and this really isn't so much a critique as a comment, it's really a bummer learning that you are basically a stooge for Ryan and Fontaine, and not truly a guy whose plane just coincidentally crashed near the island with the bathysphere. It looks like ultimately you are basically just a highly-evolved splicer, which I guess is how it had to be, considering all the plasmids and tonics you use during the game.

At this point I'm kinda bummed I harvested the first couple of LSs, since I ended up rescuing every one after that, and would like the 100 Achievement points. Ah well . . .

I played the game a second time to get achievements/get a different ending. I got 47 out of 50 achievements. It's hard as heck to get all the diaries/tonics and I couldn't beat it on hard.

I'm glad I didn't buy it because after beating it twice now I'll probably never play it again :D

You've already played it twice? Jesus, you must play video games more than I work.
