dammit, you're going to make me install this and watch that

well if buddy would hurry his ass up and get me that file

The program I am using to rip the stream rips it as if it were actually playing it so I'm limited to about 6-7KB/sec downstream. :p

Gonna be a while? Grab a Snickers! :)

If you find someone else to do it faster, just go that route. I gotta go to bed. If you still want it tomorrow, PM me. G'night!

A lot of biology professors/researchers consult for companies like Eli Lily, Pfizer, and others, signing nondisclosure agreements. Granted, he's trying to scare the student, but being in possession of corporate trade secrets (if true) means he's in pretty in over his head.

that may be true if the guy had no witnesses and had no way of tracking down the thief, but since he does, the possibilities are endless.

and this professor gives off the impression of being educated enough to be elected as a consultant for some major project. i bet the OP can shed the light on the guy and confirm or reject that notion.

The video is four days old and there's been no follow-up. The laptop has long since been sold on craigslist or something.

the professor said he had a 'visual on the suspect' (oh, how i love to quote 24) with two eyewitnesses. the laptop has a transponder too. maybe that's a load of crap, but if the laptop really does hold sensitive data, then it may be true as well.

further, if the kid ended up caving in and returning the laptop, it's possible that the professor decided to accept it and not make a bigger deal of it than in the webcast itself -- for now (until the questions start). he is quoted as saying that he will be unavailable "all next week" -- which is this week. therefore, if there is any update, it probably is too soon to get anything.

If the guy is telling the truth, and there is data for company that is pre-public, they would be very interested.

Ordinary bio class for 48 minutes...
Then the last few minutes is the professor telling the class that they have tracked down the student that stole his laptop with the intention of getting a copy of the exam.
He goes on to say that they tracked him down using tracking the wireless transmissions from the laptop and such
He says that there is also a ton of sensitive material on the laptop and that whoever stole it could soon be in enough trouble to get significant time in federal prison
