There have been a few posts about being drunk over the past few days and the people are basically saying that it is cool to be 'totally wasted' and have hangovers. I like having a few drinks to relax me, but I cant stand getting drunk anymore.

What are your feelings?

I hate the term "binge" drinking. It's abused about as much as the other buzzphrase "assault rifle".

As for my thoughts on the practice of drinking until intoxicated? So long as you aren't driving, beating your wife/kids, or otherwise ruining your life with it...more power to you.

A drink or two is fine, tipsy is okay, but flat out drunk is just stupid IMO. You do stupid things you may/may not regret/remember, and you have to deal with hangovers. That said, screwing with drunk people can be amusing. :D

Not to mention, binge drinking (ie: until you pass out or throw up) can kill you. One of my floormates last year had to be rushed to the hospital after he threw up and passed out.

You can also suffer liver damage from drinking excessively over long periods of time.

I updated the name of the topic... I consider binge drinking to be "excessive" drinking, and I wasnt using it as a buzz word, I just figured that it would be universal enough for people to understand.

I used to drink copious amounts of alcohol in my youth and in reflection, it wasn't the best use of my time and money...

You might think you're the life of the party but in reality you're just really annoying.

<--Can't stand being around drunks.

Nothing wrong with it. Especially if you have cool/likeminded friends. Sure you can do stupid things but it's fun too.

my roommate seriously drank too much one night. *seriously*. i'm sure his liver hates him now. i don't mind drinking at all, just when people get drunk. i don't see how it's fun to black out and not remember what you did. that's just plain scary, IMO.

I did my fair share of excessive drinking in college, but I outgrew those behaviors years ago.

Good, keep it up. There is a good chance the last night of your life will also be one when you were drinking excessively.

Being hammered with sober people is in poor taste...but getting hammered with likeminded people, what's the problem? As long as you aren't driving or causing problems, its fine.

Yeah same. I don't like being drunk around sober people, and vice versa. But if I'm with a bunch of friends and we're all getting drunk, it's quite a bit of fun. Until the next morning.

i usually dont have more than a couple drinks, but i think drunk is ok. its the over the top falling down drunk that i think is a bit excessive, not the drunk. when i actually do drink enough to get drunk, i know to stop then so i can enjoy it. i also remember everything, dont throw up and dont get the hangover in the morning. my best friend was notorious for not knowing when to stop, and has many blank spots in his memory over the years to prove it.

ya ive had a few friends get their stomachs pumped for alcohol poisoning from not knowing hen to stop drinking. pretty sad to me, i cant see losing that much control over my own actions.

Excessive drinking (as stated in the thread topic), yes. Because A) it's unhealthy if practiced more than very occasionally and B) you're a lot more likely to do something stupid that results in your (or worse. . .somebody else's) death. Do you really need this spelled out for you? What are you, stupid? Never heard of alcohol poisoning? Think it never happens? Read the post right before this one. . .

Haha give it a rest ahurtt. You have to drink a LOT to get alcohol poisoning and risk dying. You can get blackout drunk and still be far from alcohol poisoning. Yes, you certainly can drink yourself to death, but its not easy. Not nearly as easy as you make it sound, that's for sure.

Oh, you're one of those types. Because you get drunk you will drive or do something life-threatening? How many nights out drinking result in someone getting alcohol poisoning? You really sond like you have no idea.

There are plenty of other ways to get yourself killed while your shitfaced drunk. You get that drunk and you can't help but get sloppy. Your perception, judgement, and balance are all fuxored. You could stumble out in the road in front of an oncoming car. . .fall down steps and break your neck. . .drunk driving wreck. . .many many other things all of which are much more likely to happen to you if you are sloppy shitfaced drunk. We're not talking about a little tipsy here. . .as the topic says, we're talking about when you've had an excessive amount to drink. If you cannot see how that puts you at higher risk of dying, you are plainly retarded.

Absolutely idiotic. I cannot stand being around people who binge drink, you can just tell they're missing some braincells by looking them in the eye.
