Just WoW!!!! What else is there to say??

Bill O’Reilly showed a wealth of ignorance Wednesday in saying that impoverished Americans “live very well.” (Listen to the audio clip below.)

The right-wing commentator made the remark to his old Fox News colleague Sean Hannity while the two discussed capitalism “through the prism” of the Democratic presidential debate. O’Reilly, appearing on Hannity’s radio show, accused Democrats of wanting to “destroy” capitalism.

Hannity set up O’Reilly’s remarks by saying aspirations of having a nice house and car are “achievable, but only in America, but only because this system of capitalism has created the greatest advancement of the human condition, because we’re free.”

O’Reilly replied that Americans have already achieved that standard of living, then spouted off on the disadvantaged.

“Most people in America, even people in poverty, live very well,” said O’Reilly, who was a top-rated Fox News host until he was fired in 2017 for sexual harassment. “You know the studies, that poor people in America have air conditioning, have cars, have big-screen TVs. They live pretty well compared to the rest of the world.”

The 2019 poverty guideline for a family of four in the United States was an income of $25,750, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

“Why do you want to destroy a system that provides opportunity to rise and improve your circumstance as my parents did, your parents did?” O’Reilly continued.

Once you have propagandized the miserable to believe you can free them, they need also to be convinced, down the road, that it is actually happening. You never want to risk that the batteries that sustain the Matrix might wake up questioning the source of their hunger pangs. It's the purpose of Agents like Hannity and O'Reilly to provide that taylorized programming.

Anyone on EBT, Medicaid, or simply uploads proof that they are under a sufficient income level can get a free phone. As of this year, 1000 minutes, unlimited texts, and 1 GB of data is given to Safelink Wireless customers. So long as you keep assets hidden, even those who shouldn't be eligible can get these benefits and no one is going to care.

Given that Iphones seem to be prevalent at any income level, the poor is indeed better off. Local food banks intercept recently expired foods that are still safe for consumption to the hands of the needy.

The military of the federal government and the states stay out of day-to-day affairs. True totalitarian regimes have them enforce the laws with the threat of force. That's a hidden luxury of having country built from rebels. In fact, no one knows that state militias even exist anymore or that state sovereignty is very important to the function of this country.

Capitalism is not sacred, and a product of the West needing to make scared anything that materially benefits its society even though it is a neutral system that just generates revenue the best for government to take and redistribute.

it is true that americans in poverty probably do live in better quality than many people in the poorest parts of the world, but i don't think that's any reason to justify the gross economic disparity in the country.

i'll give this one a "tone-deaf at best" rating, because there actually is an element of truth to it.

...which was quickly followed by him listing the studies that back up his claim.

I look forward to reading those studies after I finish this study that claim that people who watch Bill O'Reilly, Fox and Friends and Sean Hannity are actually suffering from several disorders because the science and things.

How is this "living very well" or "indeed better off"? There are phone plans like Freedompop that are essentially free/near free and plans that only amount to around up to $20 a month if you don't have that typical retarded shit. Food banks have weird stuff, and if we're going to the bottom of the barrel crap, food is not expensive per month, and we should be maximizing the utility of perishables. You're also missing the biggest drain on the paycheck. If you're stuck in a dead-end job, you generally can't afford a home if ever, so they end up paying more for housing in long-term (wiping the benefits you talk about out) unless they go on one of the housing programs. Moreover, I'd take a lot of jobs that require degrees even if they paid the same as a lot of the min wage/near min wage stuff. Or military. Brb, 2x usual private sector compensation plus pension after just 20 yrs + subsidized lifetime healthcare + all the education you'd ever want paid for.

They even have shoes!

If either of these assholes had half their wealth disappear overnight it wouldn't change their lifestyles in the slightest.

Sounds like paradise. You should quit your job and enjoy that lifestyle.

One of the food banks in my area does provide vegatables. Churches and other religious organizations are also a source of food redistribution.

For those with a bold temperament, the market for drugs is also accessible to get ill-gotten funds.

Even the presence of squatter's rights and a slow eviction process can be used to an advantage.

Single family detached are a luxury. If you can't afford them, "buy" condos or townhouses. Or try to get Section 8 if you're eligible.
Freedompop on Sprint was hot gimmicky garbage using VoIP over data as a poor substitute for actual phone connections. That was three years ago. Maybe it is better now, but if you needed it three years ago, it was flaky.

Compared to "principled socialism" like Venezuela or Commie Cuba, the state of the American poor is luxurious indeed. At least the poor can get proper vehicles and not 50s Frankvehicles.

Most food stamps recipient have to meet a minimum work requirement precisely so they can't just sit on couch collecting checks.

In addition, those who don't disclose assets can work and make over the requirements and still get the benefits.

Maybe so, but veggies/fruits aren't necessarily expensive either. Brb, 5 lbs of apples for $1....

Uh, how is this being better off?

Yes, if you're lucky, Section 8 is a substantial benefit, but there isn't that much funding for it, so unless you're in one of the priority groups, you would be looking at more than a decade waiting probably, if ever (and if you even know about it and apply).

Freedompop on Sprint was hot gimmicky garbage using VoIP over data as a poor substitute for actual phone connections. That was three years ago. Maybe it is better now, but if you needed it three years ago, it was flaky.

I agree it isn't that great, but the point is that there are free or low cost options. What are you comparing the free phone plan to? $200/mo family plans? I don't see how this arises to such great living if we assume a wage around $20-35K per year. This plus the food doesn't even equate to $1000 a year, so the percentile addition is quite trivial. Again, look at others like the military. A lot of entry level jobs with barely more than a month of training that pay at the 90th percentile of civilian equivalents (essentially 2x or more differential) with a load of other benefits. You're hardly making it great at the bottom relative to others in the US. Really only arguable to an extent if you have Section 8.

What an conman, talking about cars like they're anything but a burden to a lot of the poor. Would be nice if this country could emulate Japan with quality public transportation so people don't need to buy cars for the right to work.

Don't you know the poor have it sooooo good? They even have *gasp* refrigerators.....imagine that. Indoor plumbing. Heat. They even dare to have a couch, chair, and bed.

And I love the well worn trope that's continually trotted out.....the poor have big screen TV's and iphones, trying to implicate the poor of having 65" TV's and iphone 11's.

True, even poor people have flat screen TV's.....but when no CRT's are being sold any longer, what other kind of TV are they supposed to own? Steam powered? And I honestly think if one was honest, a 32" TV doesn't qualify as "big screen" TV's.

And those iphones? I know more than a couple of people on the lower end of the economic scale, and they rock iphones.....like iphone 5's and 6's. But most have cheapie phones like Alcatel and other low end crap or very much older Samsung and Apple.

So full of shit your eyes must be flat brown. If that life is so luxurious, why not live it yourself?

Oh yeah, I forgot. You're one of the "experts" about everything on this board, given your posting history in here and other sub-forums. LOL!

Bill has been saying that for years. The poor have "flat screen TVs", "air conditioning", and "cell phones"!!!!

Well, even Goodwill doesn't sell CRT TVs anymore. Air conditioning is a necessity that's included with almost any apartment in the southern states (where there are lots of poor people). It would be like not having heat in the north. Cell phones are cheaper than a land line, and a lot more convenient for people who don't have a stable home. Try getting a job if you don't have a phone!

Where the fuck do you get your info? All they have to do is upload some info that says they have no money and *boom*, they get benefits? Really?

You have no idea how intrusive state govts are in qualifying applicants for benefits like EBT and such, do you? Like requiring applicants to give the appropriate administering state agency full access to any bank accounts (yes, that's a requirement), supply tax records for several prior years, in-home interviews (yes, this happens) and more.

And what assets are they supposedly hiding? In your world, the poor who get govt benefits are just sitting on their asses, watching their "big screen" TV's and playing on iphone 11's. LOL.

So what assets are they hiding? Money from working? That is exactly opposite to your notion they're sitting around collecting money from the govt.

I get it.....they're not working but they're working off the books. Right. Damn that's stupid.

And let's speak to work requirements for Medicaid, for example. 24 hrs. a week. So the poor person finds a job that gives him/her 24 hrs a week, until the job shuts down for a couple of weeks across Christmas or during the summer for retooling or the first week of January for inventory count. So the job doesn't give 24 hrs that one or two weeks and the person automatically loses benefits and cannot reapply.....ever. Sounds like a plan to keep the poor poor. But that's your real end game.....provide no ability to move upward...just keep the poor poor. Compassionate, you aren't.
