Maher is great, a hell of a lot funnier than that has been Miller ever was. Of course I wouldn't expect the Hank Hill types like Ronstang to enjoy him, the truth he speaks cuts a little close to home for him and the other knuckle draggers in this thread who are dissng Maher..

His show would be twice as watchable if they just dropped the whole lame "Final Word" monologue at the end and just had an extended version of "New Rules" fill the space. It's forced, and it's not funny.
Actually it's not meant to be funny as much as it's meant to be social commentary and it's usually spot on.

I think most Republicans don't like Bill Mahr because he tells what they don't want to hear. I think he is very polictically savy, and funny at the same time. I think Dannis Miller is Bill Mahr wanna be. Miller was funny when he stayed away from his political right-wing crap.

I don't mind his content, it's his delivery that sucks.

Maher is a better comedian than dennis miller, and better at joke rants, but far inferior as a politician. He's a little too smarmy when he makes a political point. But I do like his show.

I think that they are both funny and I can find relevence and points of discussion from both. That isn't to say that both are right all the time....but they make arguments that make me want to research the validity of them and that help me draw my own conclusions.

Maybe I'm too middle of the road (except when it comes to my total disgust of the Bush admin) and believe that both sides have very good and very stupid stances at the same time though.

Side point....DM and I are alums of the same school. ;)

Well, I almost always disagree with dennis miller, but I still find the way he presents his political viewpoint superior. Maher is like michael moore, with a little less research, and significantly more misdirected bile/venom.

You can call him biased, rude, smug, or arrogant but one thing you cannot call him is an idiot. He likely has a higher IQ than all the "Bill is an idiot" posters in this thread combined, and unlike these dork shutins in who can barely string a sentence together in a social setting, he's actually able to get across his points succinctly with just the right amount of humor thrown in. This of course makes him threatening to these people.

He had some good lines in his last comedy that I really agreed with.

On how people with children get cut breaks at work while single people get hosed.

"Hey joe go home you have twins in the school play.. well what if I have twins in the jacuzzi"

He's exactly like Dennis Miller if you leave out intellect and humor.

Dennis Miller? People actually found him funny? I mean the guy's only "talent" (if you want to call it that) was an ability to make obscure references and use words large enough to make him look like an intellectual. I guess that was enough for his audience of 5.

Meh... Mahr's show is a bit of a farce. He leans to the left himself, then he usually has one guest that is far to the right, another far to the left, and someone else who is a moderate lefty. So it basically winds up a 4-1 battle against the super conservative.

Even if you add intellect and humor Dennis Miller still doesn't match up well the Maher. Maybe that's why Maher has a successful show on HBO and Miller is left hawking NetZero.

Also, some guy owned him on his show by saying anybody who thinks that saying "Bush is an idiot" is funny, is a complete moron and is laughing at the lowest common form of humor.

Yeah, I saw that show. Bill didn't get owned, the guy making the comment was a moron.

Who thinks Dennis Miller is funny?

I think DM is funny. I always have liked his verbose rants overflowing with big uncommon words. They are like awkward poetry, but still manage to get across a message with strong emotion. I have always found it to be brilliant and unique.

And a weird pasty white color to boot. I guess he has to stay indoors a lot to practice being so annoying.

As big of a critic of Bush that I am, I had to agree with the guest. What's so funny about calling somebody stupid? It's not funny, and in my experience, only stupid people laugh at it.
