Bill Maher and the "liberal Hollywood elite"

Unelectable ? Really, I take it you have insider information the rest of the country isn't aware of?

I see a few problems with her electability:

1. During her first run at the Democratic primary she was asked a question when she was down in the polls about how she soldiers on. In her response she started tearing up. The question didn't seem like one that would elicit that response. I think it made her look weak and emotional.

2. During her Benghazi testimony she became so angry she started yelling at the questioners. What president has ever shown out of control emotions like that? It made her seem thin-skinned and undisciplined.

3. She stayed with Bill after he cheated on her at least once and probably more times. That makes her look like a doormat.

4. Her obesity also makes her look weak and out of control.

I don't think the American people are going to elect an obese and apparently thin-skinned, emotional, undisciplined doormat of a commander in chief. I just hope the Democrats can settle on an electable opponent. I'd hate to see her lose to the likes of Bush, Christie, Ryan, Rubio or Walker.

And how did I move the goal post? Based on aggregate viewer ratings, the HBO promos between all the movies, series and specials get the highest viewer ratings of all. But that don't necessarily mean people are actually sitting there watching all of them, does it? Which brings up another salient point. How many of those aggregate viewers of Bill's show, will watch the same episode multiple times just because they already happen to be "watching" HBO and they are too lazy, drunk, stoned or some combination to even change the channel? Probably a good percentage.

And the same exact thing could be said for any other show on the network. Your final prediction is just as pertinent to GoT/Sopranos as it is for Real Time.

Bottom line : the show is successful and much more cost effective than the other series you've put him up against like Rome/Carnivale. They were canceled because they weren't making the network money anymore. The network likes him enough to renew his show for multiple seasons at a pop, give him his own specials, etc., BECAUSE HE MAKES THEM MONEY. You don't like him, we get it.

In America when you are called a Jew it's usually a reference specifically to Askenazi ethnicity, rarely about the religion, of which there are many forms and sects of.

And of fair number of them are atheists, some as rabidly as many on here.

His show is probably much less expensive to make than GoT, so he's probably the most costly expense.

He has one set for the most part and guests probably come on the show for the publicity.

So it is most likely cheap to produce compared to GoT or other hour long dramas. Compare it to other news/infotainment shows and it'll probably compare rather favorably in terms of viewers.

Yeah he can be smug but he doesn't seem to be an outright liar.

Maher, find I want to like him but OP pointed out the reasons I can't really stand the guy on TV.


The best ones point out to us our hypocrsy and get us to laugh at it instead of fume at it. That is pretty difficult needle to thread, especially for liberals and conservatives who know they are right about stuff. I like Stewart the most in this regard, Colbert not so much. I like Dennis miller because of his locked and quick tirades on stuff and I like that he got so crushed on Monday night football.

Warren is my girl and shares none of Hillary's negatives including weight.

Reagan, the Bush presidents, Eisenhower and Obama are/were getting old without getting fat. The last president that heavy was Teddy Roosevelt. Americans apparently want healthy looking presidents. But maybe that's changed given the current average waistline in this country.
