I bet this happens fairly often. I just saw a profile of Gates on a TV show (60 Minutes?) where he was giving a speech to troops in Afganistan. The officer introducing him introduced him as Bill Gates, and Gates immediately made a joke about it.
That may have been intentional though. I am sure the people around him joke about it all the time.

Now who's making excuses?
Saying that you want someone's kidneys to fail is not much of a joke.

And I wasn't making excuses for the office who called in Bill Gates I was suggesting it was a joke, and Thump says it seems to have not been a joke. So it happens.

Because laughing at the POTUS for forgetting the name of the Secretary of Defense is the same as someone calling a US citizen a terrorist and hoping for their death, right?

It was a joke, and of course you would not see it as such. Regardless, you are doing the same thing you are accusing those on 'the left' of doing.

And you were indeed making excuses; you were not there when the guy made the mistake, yet make the claim that the error was intentional. Making excuses.

That poster says 'the left' can't take a joke.
When Wanda made a joke, many on 'the right' were not laughing. So who exactly can or can't take a joke?
And spare me the indignation. Rush has called Pres Obama a terrorist. I know...I know, he's just an entertainer! Well so is Wanda Sykes.

Don't make me point out 'serial liar' here. No, Gore was not. If you can find one exaggeration, I can find ten false accusations by the right of exaggeration and lies.

You're wrong.

And Bush was exposed and ridiculed by the press. How about the details of his 20+ year old drunk driving arrest being released the WEEKEND before the election??

That's when they learned of it - the press dit not do well that I recall at covering the whole story of the arrest's *coverup*, arranged by one Alberto Gonzales, who was given some sort of vague reward for his loyal assistance in hiding the arrest, but I forget what Bush did for him. Oh, ya, that's right, he prostituted the nation's justice system to let him get away with murder by having his buddy there to enable anything.

Maybe a little more notice of how Gonzales had covered up the drunk driving arrest would have helped keep him from becoming Attorney General to help Bush cover up more.

How about the endless stories about him going AWOL while a member of the Texas National Guard? I am sure I can find more such stories with a simple search.

I'm not saying Bush did not get blasted for anything - of course he did (and once or twice even unfairly). I said, there was a lot he got a pass for.

The irony that the political result, thanks to the Swift Boat lias, was that Bush could claim not only a draw but a victory between a draft-dodging, influence-abusing kid of a politician who supported the war, against a man who actually served, was awarded medals for injury by the enemy - shows how unbalanced the issue was, including in the coverage.

You're now down a bunch more examples - how many do you want to lose on? I notice you pathetically didn't even try to list 5 or so examples of Gore's 'exaggeration'.

It's not so much that Wanda's joke was out of line because she made fun of Rush, but that she made fun of 9/11. (to me at least)

Wanda's joke *about Rush* was in poor taste.

This is pretty funny, but one has to wonder what the MSM would have done if Bush had made the same mistake. I suspect that we won't hear too much about this, similar to how his 57 states gaffe was buried.
It's pretty funny when the righties who are the group that has huge double standards at forgiving their own side but screams like babies over any trivial issue by Democrats, pretends that it's the other way around. You have to be terribly deluded and ignorant to try to do that. Bush got huge passes all the time, while the right has raised all kinds of nonsense over every Democrat, especially Obama, when he's not putting lipstick on a pig of palling around with terrorists.
"Got wood?"

The only wood Craig has is attached to his inflatable Obama doll.

In fact, there are some additional 14 US territories if not more because some of them are uninhabited. I have to wonder if the actual script should have read
50 States and seven major US territories, and somehow Obama screwed up and shortened it.

But when it comes to lies, damn lies, and statistics, some of them are simply comical errors not intended to damage and other are calculated lies intended to damage. And we should not lose sight of that point. BFD, our public officials do not know everything and on a distressing large number of occasions, get facts wrong or misspeak.

Attacks don't work when they run against common perception. Calling John McCain a traitor or unpatriotic or a coward would have sounded pretty dumb coming from anyone. Similarly, basing an attack on the Harvard Law graduate, multiple author, renowned public speaker, and generally acknowledged from left and right as a very astute intellect, with a verbal gaffe like "57 states" or this Gates thing, is, well, going to ring hollow.

But I do applaud the attempt and if similarly strong and important messages are raised as issues in 2012, you guys are sure to win.

 He misspoke. Don't try to find some way to make it "right," there's no need. It's meaningless. No one really cares that he misspoke, it's just something people like to joke about.

The crucial difference, he knows its a mistake.

Bush wouldn't get it. He'd repeat it ad nauseam. The right would also believe it.

Did you watch the video? He made no effort to correct his mistake, so apparently it didn't register.

The left won't let the facts get in the way of their interpretation.

Yes, the right are so good at using facts, like where the WMD were.

No, its just that they are trying to use it as a way to say that Bush isn't retarded.

Bush is a Yale Grad with a MBA from Harvard, was a fighter pilot a two term governor of the second large state in the country and a two term President who also happens to be an idiot.

Which shows that the media can frame how some is presented if they want too.

Bush's tendency to chop up words and misspeak is a sign he is an idiot. Obama's tendency to do the same without a Teleprompter is a sign that he is tired etc etc.

I have a friend who worked for the Harvard MBA program, there are tons of idiots in it. That program is far more about kissing the professors' ass than anything else. Harvard Law is an entirely different beast altogether, it's cutthroat as hell... and everyone is angling to head the law review.

Bush got into Yale because his dad got him in, Obama got into Columbia because he earned his way. Bush got into Harvard's MBA program because of who he knew, Obama got into Harvard Law because he earned his way. Bush had the machinery of one of the most powerful political families in the history of the US backing up his gubernatorial and presidential ambitions, Obama had to work his way up into it.

Bush used teleprompters too, he was that bumbling when he HAD help. You honestly think that the media is the cause of people thinking Obama is smart and Bush dumb? Really!? You can't honestly believe that. Obama's friends and foes alike, when ask to describe him almost universally apply the term 'intelligent' to him. How many friends or foes would put that description on Bush?

I have never heard anyone question Obama's intellectual credentials, but you think that the 'librul media' somehow is the one responsible for it. Give me a break.

If Obama is such an intellectual giant, why does he still refuse to release his college transcripts?

When Bush made a mistake, we took it for confirmatory evidence that Alzheimer's had set in early. When Obama makes a mistake, we take it for confirmatory evidence he is human. One of these assumptions is false. Which is it? Hmmm....
