Honestly surprised at how close the govs race in MN is. You have a republican gov who balanced the budget after Ventura destroyed it without raising taxes. He has sat over some very nice economic data in this state. We consistently rank high for low unemployment. He has pushed funds into areas that are vital to the expansion of the twin cities(roads).

I think what got him was the general backlash against republicans and helping push through the stadium measures. That whole mess hurt him, but I think he will still pull off a close win.

It surprises me because the guy running against him is your classic lawyer Ahole and has literally zero plans to deal with anything. The media didnt help matters as they never pressed Hatch on how he was going to pay for his proposed spending either. Plus the guy is a hothead like Howard Dean. He called a reporter who dared report his campaign in a negative light a republican whore, but he claims later was hack.

But that is what happens when the two big newspapers are owned by the same company.

/shrug
Good thing Republicans have been fighting against media consolidation

What does that troll have to do with this thread?

What that troll has to do with this thread, is that YOU are complaining about :
" But that is what happens when the two big newspapers are owned by the same company."
and it's the Repigs who have pushed for, and changed the laws to allow meida consolidation, and permitted the big media corporations to expand and eliminate competition/opposing voices in their market.

I still have a hard time understanding how a Gov. with a favorability rating of 55% isn't coasting to re-election.

Well how did a gov with a favorability rating in the high 30s coast to an easy victory. Damn you Kinky Grandma....

Actually, I was surprised to see Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) win again for Governor, since he's had so much criticism. It was by no small margine, either. I thought the nation was tired of republicans, but apparently there are still warm places, where they are still adored.

You're referring to Rod Blagojevich?
Well, It's pretty simple...If your favorability rating sucks, and your opponents own sucks just as bad, or even worse, you'll win.

And that is without the "98% Incumbency rate" factor included.

arnold's really moved toward the center/left in the past year after he had some major ballot initiatives defeated (I forget the specific details)

If I lived in California, I'd vote for him over his democratic opponent.
He's not your typical republican with neoconservative extremist views.

That was wise of him, and probably the reason the constituency was so forgiving.

Biggest surprise here - Sara Palin winning by 12 points. The whole thing was looking like a 2-3 point contest. More proof that polls suck. Same thing happened when Murkowski won last time.

But the good news is... Alaska has the hawtest governor in the US. 😀

Hey..just think...with the Democrats controlling congress, we get to spend the next two year B!TCHING about them.

😀

You need your sight and your head examined. Even my bad eyes aren't seeing that as "hawt".

I will admit, however, that she's much easier on the eyes than Hilary.

Oh come on... for a 40 year old soccer mom she's not bad looking... that picture doesn't do her justice. 😉

Got a better one, something that gives more of the complete package, instead of just a bust? Only then, can I judge, as to whether there is anything there, or not. 🙂

Back on topic, the biggest shock of the night is that Prof is still posting.

/thread

"well you know.... we the republicians lost but .... we didnt lose that badly which says something"

"you know thiss electiion is not as great for the democrats as they would want you to believe"

.... The guy really needs to apply for a job for the Republician party. He would be great. Them or at least Foxnews.
