What do you thing the most slept on car is (old or new)? I'm curious to see what everyone thinks...

Example of a Sleeper (for those who don't know): Ford Taurus SHO (hauls ass but doesn't look like it can)

Definitely a pre current-gen SHO.

I would LOVE to have one, if it weren't for the reliability concerns. :(

Also, BMW 5-series are pretty damned quick, if it weren't for their reputation as a performance vehicle they'd be a good sleeper.

Bobtist - what were they putting out for HP/Torque? I've heard of some pretty nasty mods to go with em (turbocharging the V6 thats in there)

Yeah, that GNX (has a 6cyl. with a fat stock turbo) was butt-fast. 0-60mph in 5.0s off the lot. Not sure of horsepower, but is probably around 350+ because that car is heaaaaavy:).

hmm, not getting too many replies - I just wanted to see what there was out there for sleepers but I'm not seeing too much so far...

(consider this a bump)

just about to say the dodge spirit. i've seen movies of them doing 13's in the quarter mile, although that was almost definitely modded.

Welp, I was about to give my input as well, The Spirit R/T has to be one of the biggest sleepers out there. Too bad they're not very popular. For those that don't know, Dodge was squeezing 224 Horses out of a 2.2L engine. A turbo-intercooled engine with a Lotus-Designed head, and it was faster than the Taurus SHO

Yeah alot of dealerships didn't push chryco's turbo cars, they claimed therre were reliability and expense issues to sell the more expensive V6, when in many cases the turbo 4 was arguably a much better engine! Anyway here is a link to the Spirit R/T specs. They're a pretty rare car too.....

Nissan Maxima is another sleeper car, so is an M3 or M5.

Most people won't know it's an M5 until it flies by them!!

Some black Ford Pinto with, lowered, with a spoiler on it that I see driving around here all the time. I have no idea what's under the hood, but from the way this guy has this crapmobile done up on the outside, it must be a blown 351ci Ford small block. ;)

It's no M5, but how about the 5-series wagon? Nobody ever suspects the wagon...

Oh, and one time I was looking for Pinto pictures, couldn't find a stock one anywhere. It's scary what some people have done with those things.

Well, it was for a Spanish project, we had a picture, and had to make up a story for it. Our picture had a fire or something, so of course I thought, "PINTO"

Mid 80's Ford LTD's

Not the full sized cars which started to go under the name of Crown Victoria. The much smaller LTD was based on the same platform and used most of the same drivetrain and suspension parts as Mustangs. With a few mods, they could be real fast. Even with the available 5.0 V8 they were pretty fast stock.

ragingbitch - everyone may know that the m5 is a butthauler, but most people cannot distinguish it from a normal everyday 528, so that makes it a sleeper:)

Buick Roadmaster Wagon w/ paxton supercharger. Noone will see it coming.

Old beater trucks. Sometimes they are homes to lightly modded big blocks
