Ok, Well. The file was given to me by a friend. from what i see in the mp demo is that in 2004 they had a lot of content there already. It feels quick, runs very well at 1600x1200 on a 9800pro. there are 4 levels os stalker that are accesible. Usually its hard to find a server but not impossible (some are in Russia so dont ping well).
I found this french guide of how to make it run a bit more pleasent http://blogs.nofrag.com/G.UNIT/2006/jan/04/13562-stalker-optimisation-beta/ its in french but it basically says the files that are of use is this "user_net.ltx"
Anyway. When i play it it does feel almost complete. It felt more complete than the Doom 3 alpha leak that came a while back.
What i am saying is that this game is going places. The way the character feels with the gun is very nice, almost perfect. The weapons feel very balanced and the anomolies are a bitch. Out of curiosity i downloaded the alpha from 2002......dont bother, its cack. but the MP is great when you find someone to play with. for a 2004 mp demo I am very impressed.
Anyone that says this game is not coming out is merely speculating. And the rumour of the game being little more than a tech demo...well, it is a non scripted game the tech is by far the most important thing there.
I am glad that they are really taking their time with this! They have to make an engine(no other engine that can do the vastness proposed), the contenc and other things on a Ukranian budget.
By the way the link with the configuration guide contains some very nice screenshots of one of the body armour types.
I would compare the multiplayer experience to CS maybee. because it feels plausable.
Has anyone else here tried the MP demo? what did you think?

Edit:
I made the comparison to doom 3 because from the time that it was leaked in an alpha to the time of its release was a little over 2 years. Unfortunatley that turned out to be really poop(My oppinion).

What i wanna know is why Duke hasent been leaked yet.

During THQ's financial conference call to discuss their latest results, company execs revealed that two of their main PC titles, the Gas Powered Games RTS title Supreme Commander and the long-in-development GSC Gameworld first person shooter STALKER, will now be released during THQ's 2007 fiscal fourth quarter which means they are now targeted for release between January and March of 2007.

2007 fiscal year does not always mean 2007.

THQ does not hide its fiscal year. you are right it does not always mean 2007 but if they know what fourth quater 2007 is then they can make the correct assumption.

Sorry, but what's supposed to be so special about STALKER that has everyone all bummed that it's in trouble? So many games get the pre-release anticipation buzz and they splat, like Pariah. Anyone remember that one? Just came out a few months ago and sank without a trace.

One of the few original FPS games that I'd heard of in the past few years...I also thought it had a lot of potential. What exactly have they been doing though? I first heard of the game in like 2002-2003...everyone else seems to be able to put together a game in 3-4 years (excluding 3D Realms of course [/i])
Ever tried to code a PC game by yourself? It's hard. Really hard.

Sure, they have more than a few guys helping, but if you want to be competitive and not crank out just another Half-Life 2 clone you need to either have a LOT of people working on it, a well-established engine, and/or lots of money to get it out quick. (Or make it really crappy. Deus Ex: Invisible War, I'm looking at you) These guys are creating a new engine, a new gameplay theory, and a new story all from virtually nothing compared to what other game studios, particularly in the US, have. I'm amazed they've gotten as far as they have in the current time span, especially considering the fact that their weather system and graphics are still pretty damn amazing by current standards.

As long as they get the engine down and make it moddable I'll be happy. I miss having a good game engine to play with.
