I don't feel guilty about PM'ing, just never did it before.
The $15.99 price threw me off too. The receipt doesn't reflect the original price, just the discounted price. But I was watching everything they were entering. The manager almost entered $14.99 by mistake, but caught himself, but I saw him enter a price adjustment for $19.99, then walk away.
What they must have done is knocked the price down to $19.99. Then taken 110% off $44.99 = $4.50
$19.99 - $4.50 = $15.99
+ $1.32 tax
Total = $17.31

I'm not sure that was the way they were suppose to do it, but the manager just approved the $19.99 price adjustment and walked away, the cashier entered whatever they enter and the $15.99 price came up. He was even surprised at the discount. It could have been he was just distracted by the group of hot girls that just walked into the store. I swear you could tell where they were at by the roaming group of CC employees that were following them around. Anyway, for my first PM, I think I got a great deal and will definitely take advantage of this again. I was going to PM at BB, but like I said it was far too crowded and the line was insane. CC was nearly empty and plenty of MSG2 on the shelfs.

I'm heading over to the local EB first thing Thursday morning. I never knew stores closed early on NY eve!

Doh!

Called at 7PM and no one answered at two diff stores

Maybe they meant to adjust the PS2 version?

That's also my guess. If the regular price is cut from $50 to $20 for this not-so-old game, it definitely surprises me.

The PS2 MGS2: Son of Liberty is around $15 or more.
MGS2: Substance of PS2 and PC will not be released until March. Everywhere else is selling Xbox one for $39.99 or more.

Is the game so much improved over the PS2 MGS2? I always thought that it was just jazzed up a bit for Xbox and they added a level, but when you said they are releasing it for PS2 it seems that the game is really different. If it is pretty much the same game then they just try to get all those people who are willing to spend $50 for it to pay $50 and then they quickly bring it down to the price the same (or almost same) game sells on the original system. Crazy Taxi for PS2 and GC are an example of this since it was down to $10 on Dreamcast it went down to about $15 on those systems pretty soon after release.

I expected MGS2 on Xbox to hit $20 and was waiting for it to get there pretty soon after release but I have to admit this is sooner than I expected, I thought it would be sometime in Jan or early Feb. Of course this is assuming that they are pretty much the same game, which I'm not so sure of.

I believe Substance adds VR Missions (and alternative missions, which are similar to VR missions, but are on normal levels), Snake Tales (which more or less lets you play through the game as Snake, but with different objectives and a different storyline) and some minor tweaks to the original game. Not really a ton of content. I would imagine that Substance for PS2 would just be a replacement for the MGS2 thats already out there for PS2 and still priced as a value disc. I believe this was done with the original MGS for PSX, but I could be wrong.

It sounds like they aren't coming out with Substance for PS2 though, instead it looks like this disc was released instead: Link

Just as expensive as Substance for X-Box 🙂

LiQiCE,
The document dvd is extra stuff but nothing like the Substance protion. Substance will be coming to the PS2, eventually.

Oh, according to EBGames it says that it includes VR missions so I assumed they were the same as the Substance ones.

Looks like ebgames.com bumped MGS:Substance to $24.99 🙁 Fortunately for me I got in while it was still $19.99 😀

Yep, and I think that's proof that this price drop is not a mistake. (AND BTW, mine ordered on 12/31 online shipped today)

What's funny about this whole deal is (although i'm sure they've probably changed it by now) when i went to get a copy, , the price new was $19.99, but the trade-in value is $35...

Thanks!! Went to EB during lunch and picked up two copies of MGS2 for $19.99 (one for my cousin who'd I'd forgotten about during my XMAs shopping). Both were clearly marked $19.99.

BTW, I picked up FIFA2002 last week in Costco for $15.00.

Tallgeese is not here right now but wanted to know if anyone had any spare EB coupons and to save it and send it to him.

There's a scan in the other thread in HD's you might want to try.

If anyone needs the catalog page for the mail in GC I have a few left from my trip to my local EB.

BTW I just got back from my local EB and it is still $19.99 in the B&M locations. The manager darn near had a coronary when I MADE him check the computer because he was insisting that it was still $49.99 because it was new.

SO run to your nearest EBGames or Electronics Boutique and pick this up for cheap.

GOOD LUCK!!

Greg

I would just like to say that EB has the WORST customer service EVER. I called two locations to confirm the price of MGS2 and that it was in stock and both say yes. But when I drive there, magically they are out (this was within half an hour of calling). They then say that since it's such a good price they cannot issue a rain check, but if I want a used copy I could buy it for $34.95. I then had them call thier district manager to see about letting me buy the used copy for $19.99, but they said that they couldn't do that. So they sent someone away that was willing to buy a used copy for the same price as they were selling new copies for. I now know why I haven't bought anything from EB in over 2 years. If anybody has the corporate office number for them I would love to call and complain. I'm not having any luck finding it on the website. Although I can't blame them for hiding the number with how poor the customer service is. Congrats to those who made it through the EB BS to get this great deal.....ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO FIGHT!!!!!!!!! I WILL GET IT AT THAT PRICE FROM THEM!!!!!!!! Hehe.....

NEVER call ahead...just go there. You not only gave them a warning...you also gave them a half hour head-start to pull the title off the shelf.
If you are right there, standing in front of them, ready to buy...they won't magically not sell it to you, dude.

That having been said: This deal is cooling off FAST folks! Better get your copy EARLY tomorrow if at all possible. Otherwise, I have a feeling the price will be changed at the B&Ms too.

HUGE Gamestop circular in the Sunday paper today.

Best deal = Trade-in 2 Xbox games, choose Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, or Mortal Kombat, Deadly Alliance for $9.99

The circular also lists used prices for many of the most popular titles for various systems.
It even lists trade-in values for other titles.

One AWESOME trade-in: Serious Sam garners $18.00 in credit
Serious Sam is only $19.99 at CC.

Here's what I'm thinkin about doing:
Buy it at BB, PM to CC, use $5 off Gamers Gift Card...makes Serious Sam only $14.99 (& tax).
Take Serious Sam to Gamespot. Trade it in for $18 credit (& tax).
If you can do this one more than once, you're making about $4~$5 each time.

Best of all...this is totally legal, since you are trading SS in as a USED game.
BTW: the Gamestop Trade-in deal ends 1/5/03
I traded in Blood Wake and Genma Onimusha (worth only $5 each trade-in credit normally) and got Splinter Cell for $10!

I called ahead to confirm that they had it in stock so I didn't waste the drive. The first place I asked the price just to make sure it was in my area too, and he confirmed that as well. The second place I said nothing about price. I asked if they had the game and they said yes (never said it was used) and put the used one on hold for me. I then called a third location, and that guy said that they don't have it for 24.99 like the online price says, but that they have it for 39.99 (this was an EBX, yet still the same company). I told him that it scanned in for $19.99 at the other two stores, and he said that if he called up and that was the price in the system then he would match it.....but then he said that he had one copy left and someone was in line with it in hand to buy. Something tells me once I told him the price he backed off on having it. EB is a horrible company and I must do all I can to stop them.....

(sorry, I know I shouldn't be posting this here as it's not the point of this forum, just had to vent a little. Big props on this post though, hell of a deal. Hope I can cash in on it)

Well...at least wait until they pay out my GC before you take them down my brother! 😛

Not a problem, my man. Keeping everybody aware of possible flak and other assorted B.S. they might get at a particular store is an important part of deciding if a certain deal is worth the aforemention trouble/hassle.
