yeah you can use xbconnect with a mod chip, but not with xbox live unless you go through some more detail process. Check out xbox-scene.com for details

Even if you have a low ping it may be slow. It mostly depends on the ping of the server. And how many boxes he's got connected to it. Look for hosts with low ping, and you'll have fun. Otherwise it SUCKS!

It's got all the characters, is in Japanese, and is only in the EO mode (which means you can only use the analog, not digital controls).

No, it's not only in EO mode. Just think of it as the US version w/o Live.
