Big GeForce 2 MX Problems

I've just gotten a Hercules 3D Prophet II MX. I'm having problems running Quake III. I can play UT just fine using D3D, and GLQuake works fine also. However, Quake III hangs immediately after I enter a level. I have to reboot the computer to fix it. I'm running Windows 2000 SP1, and I've tried both the latest Hercules drivers and the most recent official Nvidia drivers (6.31), both with the same results. Also, I'm using the 1.25y patch for Quake III (I also tried 1.25 with the same results). I'm thinking it's not a hardware problem, since it does work great in other games. My previous card was a Voodoo3 3000, and it worked great in Quake III. Here's my system config:

Dual PII 450s
256mb PC100
Epox KP6-BS rev .2 (440BX)
Adaptec 2930CU SCSI
Intel PRO/100B NIC
Creative PCI Sound
Drives, etc...

There are no resource conflicts, irq or otherwise. Does anybody have any ideas? This is really annoying!

UPDATE: I've found that by disabling GL Extensions in Quake III, it doesn't hang, but it runs really slowly (it seems slower than the Voodoo3).

I think you'd be correct on this one. Quake 3 1.25 is a beta version and is largely untested. You should try 1.17.

Just tried the 6.34 Win2k drivers, no difference. Has anyone ever gotten Quake III working with an MX under 2000 with GL Extensions enabled? Also, does anyone know how to individually enable/disable various GL Extensions?

I have Win2000 with SP1 and a VisionTek Geforce 2 MX. I haven't had any problems with Quake III. I just have the demo installed for benchmarking and to play every now and then. No problems yet. And after trying some of the Win2000 tweaks in another thread, get the same fps that I got in Win98 with detail and sliders maxed.

I'm using the 6.31 reference drivers.

edit: I did notice that the Nvidia demos don't run so well under Win2000, but beyond that, I haven't had any problems. Maybe you could try downloading the demo and seeing what happens?

edit2: If I can find my Quake III cd, I'll install it and see what happens. Possible that a patch might have messed things up for you?

Just installed QIII without any patches. No problems. Got 48.3 fps at 1024x768x32 with everything maxed out. I'm going to try downloading some of the patches and see what happens.
