Remember, Texans fleeing failed Republican policies, if you move to California, please leave your conservative politics in Texas.
I live in northern NY. I think a week here would probably be enough to break a Texan's spirit.
Biden declares A TOTAL LACK OF TESTICULAR FORTITUDE for Texas.
My FiL, an Okie living in the Florida panhandle at the time, came to visit us in Maine when our eldest was born. In January.
He was not aware of or prepared for, real winter. What a change of tune, went from 'oh you prissy New England liberals,' to 'holy crap how do you people do this, it hurts to breathe!'
Meh. I poke fun, but I get it. Many of us are like wine, best when not far from our vineyards.
...The majority of outages overnight were plants fueled by natural gas, coal and nuclear, which together make up more than two-thirds of power generation during winter.
Even so, wind generation has actually exceeded the grid operator’s daily forecast through the weekend. Solar power has been slightly below forecast Monday.
The toughest people in America are in Alaska, Minnesota and Maine. They can handle anything...except Somali immigrants...I've spent half my life in the North and half my life in the South.
From what I can tell Cold people are tougher but complain less. Hot people are not quite as tough but they complain more.
The REALLY tough people can handle anything and complain very little.
They represent 0.1 percent of the population in 21st century America.
I have a feeling that there is Enron shit going on with natural gas right now.
Also, there is supposed to be a priority system for Natural Gas where industry and commercial gets kicked off to protect residential and power. I haven't heard of that happening at all. My huge office complex that has only been at 20% capacity for the last year is still open today. Shut that shit down so a neighborhood can stay on.
This is peak right wing happening - Texas, by it's own choice, is off the national grid so it doesn't have to abide by federal regulations, and now wants federal aid to fix their own shit - whose own senators talked shit about California having issues last year, whose governor or lieutenant governor mentioned secession recently, and their cult leader Trump tried to cut off federal aid from certain blue states because they didn't support him. And some right wingers are blaming this on a Green New Deal that's never happened, and on wind power, when their own state energy board states the big issue is NG infrastructure issues due to weather and NG shortages.
They are truly a horrible party and ideology.
It sure seems like the most expensive neighborhoods around here still have power. Also Houston downtown has been lit up at night while surrounding neighborhoods were dark. Not a good look
Regulations are bad because they cost money and hamper the free market. And the market is self correcting. If enough people are worried about freezing to death they’ll pay whatever to make sure they have power. /s (some Republican)
Edit-listening to the ERCOT blackout briefing:
ERCOT just reported 16,000MW of wind down for freezing and 30,000MW of thermal generation (natural gas) down.
Funny thing is, Elon Musk just moved to Texas from California. Although I suppose he should do fine in a Texas that can't keep the lights on. Tesla solar roofs and powerwalls for everybody (who can afford them)!Remember, Texans fleeing failed Republican policies, if you move to California, please leave your conservative politics in Texas.![]()
when I left Minnesota in 1997, there didnt seem to be any Somalis. Or if there were nobody was talking about them. The toughest people in America are in Alaska, Minnesota and Maine. They can handle anything...except Somali immigrants...

We USED to be pretty damn tolerant and accepting, which is why so many immigrants settled there to begin with. In recent years the state has turned nasty and I dont know why.
Texans are not ready for bad weather:

Woman, child dead from carbon monoxide poisoning after trying to stay warm in Texas
Houston police said the victims were a woman and a girl. Two others, including a boy, were taken to a local hospital for treatment.www.nbcnews.com
They're doing mad desperate shit.
Jesus, they dont even have matchsticks in Texas? On our neighborhood Facebook group people have been asking why their gas stoves won’t light during this black out and whether their pipes will be fine in this freezing weather if they left the house with the power off and no faucets left running.
It’s not whether they have matchsticks it’s that they have no clue they should use them to light a burner. I don’t understand it.Jesus, they dont even have matchsticks in Texas?

Well that’s the issue shorty was pointing out. Some of them don’t know how to light a burner but they now how to light a grill and they are literally bringing them into the house and ending up with carbon monoxide. poisoning.meh, it's probably better that way. if they can't figure it out, would you really want them messing with the gas burner and open flames?
