One thing that you will hear from lefties is that local law enforcement has no business enforcing federal immigration laws. It seems like the Obama administration disagrees.

By sharing detainee information on a network, they are alerting authorities of undocumented aliens in their custody.

After the criminal serves his or her sentence, immigration officials can be ready to deport that person right away."

If you deport a criminal to Mexico, how do you know he's going to serve time there and not just walk across the border again?

That would potentially remove much of the deterrent effect of prison for illegal immigrants. Once we send them back, it's out of our hands. Maybe their home country will punish them harshly, maybe they won't. Maybe they'll be crossing the border again a week later.
 
Depending on the crime they did.. It is super expensive to keep someone incarcerated .. and they can earn money and education in there..

Just seems like they don't deserve our prisons.. Aha... WE SHOULD PAY for them to be incarcerated in their host countries prisons at the going rate there.. I bet their prisons are hell.. and ours are heaven by comparison

And the crime they are incarcerated for is not illegally entering the country.. usually drugs or theft etc

Hate to burst your bubble, but any action taken on illegal aliens is symbolic. There are, by some estimates, 20,000,000 illegals in the usa. 🙁 This translates to 200,000 illegals currently in inmate status. (nearly 1% of general population is incarcerated) THIS ISN'T DOABLE, but if it allows getting rid of the really bad ones, go for it.

 
she was a border governor so she knows the issues. but according to dick morris obama is going to grant citizenship to all illegals who've lived here for 5 years anyway, so it looks like the race is on!
 
Immigrants (including illegals) are a net positive for economic growth, and commit crimes at a lower rate than the population, so they are a real benefit to the country. But it does make perfect sense to keep track of immigration status. The problem arises if you end up deporting parents whose children are legal citizens by birth (whom wingnuts derogatorily call "anchor babies"). Breaking up hundreds of thousands of families obviously makes things worse, and this is just one example of the impracticality of deportation. But monitoring and maintaining records on illegals is a must, no question about that.

Incorrect. Some do have tax ids and pay taxes. They also don't have all of the benefits of a citizen.

Illegal immigration is only a felony on a second charge, so obviously 100% are not felons.
 
I was discussing with a friend that I found it surprising that there isn't more animosity towards illegals during this economic downturn. With the lower employment rates, wage decreases, etc. I would think there would be more of an outcry about them taking jobs from US citizens.

Well in the case of Mexicans, which most of our illegals are, their home prisons are much harsher than ours. I bet they would be begging to serve their time in the US.

Obama's pick for DHS is Janet Napolitano who is pro-amnesty. Although I think she voted for an English only amendment in Arizona. (The english only amendment does not mean you can't speak spanish... it means all Government business is to be done in English).

 
It's pricy to imprison them, but Mexico won't do it. This is why they should be deported to the southern tip of mexico, which will then cost them more time/money to even get to the US again. If they are caught a second time, deport them to a country even worse than mexico, further south.
