I'm looking to upgrade my current 580gtx 3gb card in order to play BF4 on 3 monitors. I now have 3 24" monitors and would like to play at a res of 5760x1200. I haven't been keeping up on the video cards too closely but it seems there are quite a few options right now. What card or cards would be recommended to round of my system in order to play BF4 well on a 3 monitor setup. Here is my system:

Intel DZ77BH-55K mobo
i7-3770K
G.skill 1600 pi series 8 GB Ram
256GB samsung 840pro SSD
X-850 seasonic power supply
msi lightning extreme 3GB gtx 580 card <-- replace this with?

Is getting a 2nd 580 even an option or would that be too slow?
I think that is probably all the relevant info. Budget is $800-$900 however lower is always good if it will drive those pixels well.

Crossfire R290 would be the optimum, IMO. Just want to make sure you have adequate ventilation for them.

A single R290 is enough for Eye-infinity on high if you turn off HDAO/SSAO and MSAA, these two features are the performance killers.

If you want to max everything at that resolution, minimum 2 cards, SLI 780ti or CF R290/X.

Really, is HDAO/SSAO worth it? Darker shadows are darker? Who cares.. too much explosions and people dying to notice.

I'd go with the 780, because they have aftermarket cards out and 3 monitor surround doesn't require the active display port adapter.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162142

Also comes with 3 AAA titles, which you can sell if you want.

Otherwise the 780 Ti, which is a bit quicker than the 780 is a good option. However it costs $200 more and isn't $200 faster.

So dual 290 cards seems like a decent option. Should one wait for better coolers or just buy now and buy aftermarket coolers later?

Don't waste $$ buying after market air coolers, they easily cost $60 on top. Thats half the price of a good waterblock.

Just wait, not long to go til AIBs release their own custom models (End of Nov to early Dec is the word). Could get a nice HIS IceQx2 for $0 to $10 premium on the reference cards.

HardOCP says mid-Dec., SA says "before Christmas." So I doubt any R9 290 custom coolers will be out by the end of Nov.

dual 290 would be $800ish where dual 780s is around 1000. Dual 780 is getting a bit too pricey for my liking. I also have not purchased bf4 as of yet or a bundle might help for pricing too. Does amd or nvidia have an advantage at higher resolutions? I really don't like super loud computers and it sounds like amd might be louder/hotter.

I'd wait for custom cards. Looking it up your board his 3 slot spacing for the pci-e slots. You will be able to crossfire cards with breathing room between them.

For Battlefield 4 go AMD R9 290. As fast as 290X and faster than anything nvidia has for the game, plus they are cheaper and they have Mantle support for Battlefield 4 in December which will make them faster still by an unknown as yet margin.

Just do not get a reference card, wait for cards with aftermarket coolers next month.

Actually with only two slot spacing I'd probably go reference or similar design via aftermarket.

There isn't a lot of space on that board if you go two cards the top card is going to get drown pretty badly in hot air unless you have proper case airflow.

AMD reference 290/290x is pretty bad single, I wouldn't want to run two stacked.

Maybe wait for Mantle/Aftermarket before deciding?

BF4 works pretty well on eyefinity with my cards without MSAA. Sometimes the microstutter gets annoying though. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend crossfire 7950s until the mystical eyefinity frame pacing drivers get released.

They released frame pacing, it just doesn't work on multi display solutions....

Was that addressed with R290?

Stock ~ 850w small OC ~1kw

I'd wait for conformation that R290 addressed the stutter issue for Radeons with Multi Display setups.

I agree with Silverforce11. Wait for the 290 Aib cards to launch. That will be your best bet hands down.

Yes, Frame pacing was added the 290s for multi-display. 290s also support 3 monitors without using display port. So I think those would be the better choice.

Why link to old news? It's not even the same series of cards.

In addition, this technology works with AMD's software based frame pacing technology. Currently, with Radeon R9 290X CrossFire you will get frame pacing support with the current driver at Eyefinity resolutions, and 4K resolutions.
