bf4 settings

What are settings you guys playing bf4 with. I'm struggling to find the best settings for me to play at. Right now I'm at high settings with ultra textures no msaa or fxaa and 125 rs and vsync. 80% of the time I'm at 60 fps but in certain situations I'll drop into the 40s which is super annoying.

I am thinking (125%) SSAA is hurting your performance. You might be better off going 100% and 2XMSAA or FXAA if it's still not improving.

It only drops to 30 during loading screens. It drops to 45 fps during certain areas of a few maps. Other than that it stays at 60fps.

To play seriously i use lowest settings no vsync and 1080p. The last thing I do is notice how pretty stuff is in a competitive game. I like the least amount of distractions as possible.

Fps might be an average so 45 might make sense actually if fps can only be 30 or 60 it could average to 45. Just a thought. Try playing with vsync off and see what your fps looks like.

I'm talking about instantaneous fps using the console command perfoverlay.drawfps boolean.

Edit: Just tried it with vsync off and I fps range from 90s to 50s.

Two things that might effect performance is having two monitors active, and shadowplay. If you change the resolution scale back to 100% it might help as well. I am pretty much running your settings, minus the rs and textures on high, and it doesnt go below 70fps, and normally its much higher.

I tend to agree re the v-synch being on.
You might be a bit optimistic running such a graphically demanding game with a frame rate limit.
Unless screen tearing becomes a real issue for you I'd avoid vsynch.

With the setting I posted in the OP without vsync I scored this for a benchmark during a domination match on skyscraper map (I forget the name of it. Whichever one was in the beta). There was about 16 people in the server.

Frames: 50286 - Time: 698140ms - Avg: 72.029 - Min: 59 - Max: 92

Ultra Textures
High Settings
No MSAA
No FXAA
125% SSAA

I wish I could play with vsync on because the fluctuation in fps between 92 and 59 is jarring.

Is this game extremely jittery without vsync with anyone else? I can't take it. There isn't even any screen tearing. Its just real jittery. Its like microstutter.

Yes, it's jittery at times. Sometimes I look down and think my foot is caught on a tree branch or something. I assume that's server related and not my own doing.

This seems to only work with Windows 7.

It can also work with Windows 8. Usually people with i7 or those AMD 8 core CPUs on Windows 7 need to do this, but I would give it a try anyways. People with Windows 8 have been doing it as well.

One things that has helped my performance a lot is unparking my CPU cores.

Check the description, as I linked the utility and a quick how to. Give it a shot, you can always revert back easily.

Agreed - I did this, Win7 64bit - game is BUTTER smooth. I don't think I have played a game with the pleasure it brings me now. I noticed a difference when un parking the cores on my i7 930.

HD 7990 - 13.11, BETA 7 drivers. Ultra everything in game, scaling at 150% and I am still pulling 80fps... its quite the pleasure. Beautiful game all round.

I DL'd this utility. When I clicked to run it, the disclaimer/warning SCARED me.... have not used it...

Frightened in Rhode Island..... 🙁

This - i cannot recommend this stuff more (and gotta eat my hat too, cause i was sceptical at start). If you are sceptical just see for yourself as in video ( command needed is perfoverlay.enablegraph and also enable fps display).

In my case ( 4770K @ 4.5Ghz and 780Gtx playing 1920x1200 on ultra) i was supposedly getting good performance - 60FPS with occasional drops of FPS into ~45-50 range. I though it was due to multiplayer blabla...

NOT SO. I turned on perfgraph, and guess what, spikes are caused by CPU taking 75ms to render some frames, sure they are rare, but you can die several times in 75ms and jitter is bad for health.

After disabling core parking i am now getting rock solid 60FPS, without any dips, just solid performance. CPU frame time can still overshoot 16.666ms required for 60FPS during action, but it's 20ms, not 75ms now!

Textures - high
AA - 2x
All else Ultra @ 1080p

In windows 8.1 none of my cores were parked. I learned how to check in task manager. I don't have CPU stutter or any other kind of stutter at these settings unless its server related. There might be the occasional imperfection, but I would expect drivers and patches to smooth things out. CPU is unparked and Vram is under 2gb at these settings. That's all I can really do and its working fine (wish I could have 4x AA though and full ultra)

haha..I didnt even read the disclaimer. If you edit the registry, there is no disclaimer. Maybe try that.
