Hey guys! I'm sure some of you are excited for BF3. My room mates and I just installed BF2 to get ready. Anyway, do you guys have any suggestions for a inexpensive $<50 joystick that you can guess will be compatible with BF3. I've done some googling so I know what's out there, I'm looking for someone who has used a joystick in the previous battlefield games. Thanks for your replies!

Logitech Extreme 3D Pro worked well in BF2 for me. Gotta have the z-axis man!

I have that stick also, but it hardly works at all in Bad Company 2 on the PC. The throttle doesn't work (have to use buttons), the hat switch will not work, and even vehicle perks won't work sometimes. There are tons of posts about this on the EA forums and elsewhere, but it isn't just that joystick - DICE dropped the ball on BC2 joystick support, and never bothered fixing it, no matter how many 40+ page threads about the problems.

I'm *hoping* BF3 will have fixes for all that, but since they never bothered to fix BC2, I'm also worried.

I used to buy Logitech joysticks and they kept going wonky on me - I love Logitech, but I wasn't impressed with their joysticks. This was many years ago, though, so things may have improved. I have a Saitek now - I haven't used it in a LONG time, though.

We had one of these when I was a kid. That thing was a tank...

There are plenty of great $100.oo joysticks, but for around $50.oo the thrustmaster foxpro 2 is tough to beat. The only problem I've ever had with one is the trigger jamming because I squeezed it way to hard for months on end.

Ugh. I miss my MS Sidewinder. Perfect joystick for these types of games.

I still have mine :) I think I can just use the gameport to usb adapter in windows 7.

What is this gameport to USB adapter in Win7 you speak of? I have an older CH combatstik that works wonderfully but it has a gameport connection.

Edit: Sorry, should've just googled it. Good to know something like that exists!

My current joystick is still the Fox Pro 2. Good stick, but they don't make it any more. Here is a similar successor for only $30 FS. Still works great for BF2. BFBC2 does not support the throttle. Hope BF3 corrects that.

A joystick for BF3...seriusly?!

The video shows SLOW, arcadish, nothing like real world "dogfithing"...you could do just fine with your mouse.

This is an aracdish FPS, no where near a real flight sim...save your money.

And do yourself a favour...try a real flight sim, not the BF series...

Probably, and I'm sure a lot of people will. A joystick makes it about 3x as fun though

Really...3 times as fun?
Most be REALLY boring to start with then.

First time i have heard joysticks used for more "fun"...and not for more control fidelity...but I guess that is to be expted with the conzolised "flight mechanics"...

Doesn't matter how arcadish it is. It still feels more natural to use the joystick. Even a gamepad would be easier than the mouse. Should I have used a mouse for my "arcadeish" space sims like Wing Commander, Freespace and Independence War? Get off the high horse. Nobody's buying some fancy HOTAS setup for this, we're talking about shitty $30 joysticks.

Wing Commander works like a charm with a mouse..as any other none-simulator game.

NO.

Bro, I know you want to look all cool and shit, "I Play real sims kids", but in reality, if you tried flying jets in bf2 without a joystick you'd get murdered by anyone with a joystick, thats the plain and whole of it. Likely, it will be the same in bf3. The mouse simply can't maintain turning long enough to dog-fight, even with "arcadish" as you say, controls. Stop acting like an ass, ty.

Trouble was there's no real joysticks for consoles so they weren't going to put in much extra work when they came to the PC. With BF3 being developed for the PC hopefully they do it properly.

This.

In BF2, a skilled pilot with a joystick had an advantage over anyone using M+KB. Anyone saying that joysticks are completely superficial/unnecessary to the game obviously didn't play BF2. Bad Company 2 didn't support joysticks, which was a bit of a shame; but here's to hoping BF3 will go back to having joystick compatibility.
