Did you play Caspian Border? No. Sad, how people make decisions after a couple of hours of play based on a small infantry only map in Beta. Every comment so far from people that have played Caspian Border say that this is what BF is all about.

It is the beta people. Lighten up. This isn't a demo, it is a buggy pre-release copy.

The final game will be awesome.

Just the improvements they made from alpha are significant.

Even though I don't agree with him, you can't blame him for basing his opinion on Metro since that is all that is given to play.

I know this is a beta, but it's an awful mess, really. I don't care how good the game will look graphically on release...it just feels like a sloppily developed game, bugs or not.

I always thought BC2 had something really off about it. B3 just feels worse.

Doubt I'll be purchasing it.

I think they made a bad choice by using a non-Battlefield2-esque map for the beta. I guess I'm not quite sure how people are able to play the other map.

The beta map for BF2 was motherfucking gulf of oman! (or was that the demo map?)

This beta map is not a proper representation of what this game is (suppose?) to be.

Judging by the effort that appears to have been put into the game engine, I highly doubt this is going to end up being a flop. Since I havn't played the Caspian Border map so far though my only opinion is that it's pretty shitty as of right now.

No kidding. People expecting a polished knockout, from a fucking BETA (after playing it just a few minutes nonetheless), are morons that the final game is much better off without anyway. Good grief people. If there's anything killing PC gaming, it's the sheer amount of impossible-to-please whiny gamers. Relax a little: jerk off, smoke some bong loads, whatever.

As for the two maps, that doesn't bother me too much (and I haven't even played Caspian yet but intend to after I get some work done here). I played the Bad Company 2 demo's one map, Port Valdez, over and over and loved it.

I was hoping it would run as smooth as BC2 on my system but so far no dice. I play that at 1680x1050 but have to play BF3 Beta at 1280x720 for it to be playable all the time. I had it at 1680 and it ran like butter sometimes but would just become a slideshow at certain times so I had to turn it down.

Ah well, it's been fun so far. I definitely get my ass handed to me though, cripes. Need moar practice.

One guy says in his opinion a game looks great and is fun, then in comes impossible-to-please whiny gamers saying "The game is shit! It's a XXXX clone! Graphics are worse than my N64! PC Gaming is dead!".

over all the beta isn't bad. I do have some issues with it. First being SMG's one shotting me from very absurd distances. There also needs to be a way to balance the ranks on each team more than once I've been on a team and we're all rank 0-2 against a team with ranks 6+ which isn't just unfair because they're 'better' but they're obviously got more experience with the one map that's out and have more stuff unlocked which can make the game very one sided(8x zoom ak47's). The other issue I've seen which is a beta bug, I hope. Is that my profile says stuff should be unlocked and it's no in game which blows. But I've got stuff in game unlocked that my profile doesn't show.

pretty much echoing everyone here. Played for a bit, and I am done. If I wanted a browser based game I would play quake live, which I dont play much either. It is like paying 60 bucks for runescape or something.

I haven't been able to play Caspian either so my only experience has been with Metro. It seems like it's impossible to get into a Caspian server. I've been trying for the past 30min.

I think a lot of the gameplay related gripes could be solved by getting rid of prone. It'll speed up gameplay and deter some of the campers. There needs to be a balance between tradition and convenience though. If removing prone invalidates the Battlefield play style, than maybe it better stay.

This is an awful suggestion. Removing prone from BC2 didn't speed up gameplay and it just made it next to impossible to find cover.

I deal with bush campers and proners by simply being better than them.

As for it being based in the browser. Simply amazing. I don't want to launch a game to play it anymore. Once you get your settings entered (which will be easier in the full game) and figure out a few of the quirks of battlelog this will blow any current game out of the water.

I for one absolutely love battlelog.

Yes. Just download and install origin go to the free games tab and the beta will be there. You can download it for free and play.

I hate Operation Metro with a passion and indestructible bushes pisses me off.

I'll only consider getting BF3 after its price has seen some price reductions and after I get a CPU/GPU upgrade (which won't be anytime soon). I can play Operation Metro with my current setup E8500/4870 at 1680*1050 with everything on low/off, but the framerate doesn't feel reliable and I'm not liking BF3 enough to put up with occasionally experiencing FPS drops.

even if Caspian Border was the featured map, I'm not really liking the slower gameplay pace of BF3 with prone, suppression, and other mechanics. I honestly liked BC2's feel and pacing much more.

anyways, Operation Metro absolutely blows and whoever made the decision to make it the featured beta map should be fired.

Metro can be mind numbingly frustrating when the ground glitches are in full force. It wasn't happened earlier today when I played and the game was simply perfect. Just tried again and I couldn't even move up to the bombs without going underground. That was really really frustrating...

DICE just patched the game today.

We have distributed a server side update with the following changes:

- Terrain destruction disabled, because it causes problems with people crawling around under the map. We have a proper fix for this in the retail game, but chose to simply disable it for the OB
- Preround is fully activated: 8 players required to transition from preround to in-game; when 8 players are reached, the start-timer is set to 10 seconds
- Fixes for the most common game server crashes reported over the past 48 hours
- Fixes for end-of-round progress reporting to Battlelog (so players will see their progress more detailed on Battlelog)

The RSPs have been instructed to deploy before Fri Sep 30th, 0800 UTC (when it impacts players the least).

I was going to get a new rig when Crysis 2 came out, but it was such a disappointment I simply couldn't justify it.

So I held off until BF3, and I don't think this game justifies a new system AT ALL.

Weird, this is the first time I went 3 years on a rig....but I need a great game with some kind of graphics improvement to justify a $1000 Gaming rig.

What is wrong with you people? Let me sum it up for you all.
1. Its beta.
2. The server browser in webpage is MUCH better, it allows for more awesome stuff to be added without patching the game. Easier to get data from game. You can launch/shutdown game from it. The game loads so fast you don't even notice anyways.
3. Metro is very fluid map, very fun map.
4. The game looks FANTASTIC. Even on my GTX460 i get great fps (still going to upgrade because I want Ultra settings)

The bugs are minor, no game breaking things. The minor annoyances that everyone knows about are seriously making people not want to play the game?? Good riddance.

Im sure that with DX11 there is more eye candy but Im running a GTX285 with a Q6600 and it looks great. Default settings were set to high and my frame rates using Fraps maxed at 65 and dip into the low 30's. My CPU is definitely holding me back, I hope to upgrade soon. IMO dual cores need not apply for this game.

The outdoor portions of the Metro map are too bright and blurry for my tastes but Caspian Border looks freaking amazing. My wife came in the other evening while I was playing and said "wow, those mountains and skies look real". For the guys saying it looks like crap: you either need your eyes checked or you need new hardware.
