On paper the game is a good idea(it better be, they stole most of it from Tribes!), but the execution is lacking. They just didn't put in many mechanisms to encourage people to play fairly/funly(is that even a word?), and the end result is what you see. If anything, BF2 just made it worse than in BF1942; 1942 didn't have nearly the spawn camping problems that BF2 does(I use Wake as the example, since it's the same map). I don't expect anything better for 2142.

I loved the WW2 poster chops that spawned from everyone getting mad at the idiots that played.

actually that's the one thing I dont like what BF2 is doing- the unlocks.... it's becoming more of a RPG style persistent game and the lack of those features are what really got me interested in BF1942 originally.

I dont like games where I log in to play and some guys have better equipment than me and therefore have an advantage just because they have more "points" over a long period of time. the only advantage should be if someone is just better skilled at aiming his mouse and moving around.

BF2142 looks like it is heading even more into the persistence model. are they going to eventually become a mmorpg at this rate? god i hope not

I can see your point but there's another side too... those people put a lot of time and dedication into this game so they should rewarded, no? Isn't there some game mode where everyone is equal too? Either unranked servers... or maybe it's allow all unlocks? I forget.

yeah but it's near impossible to find any decent non-ranked servers which restrict unlocks, has a healthy player base AND has a good connection.

everyone only plays on ranked servers cause they dont want to get left behind in this unlock race. And then of couse the really dastardly thing they did with Special Forces like someone else here mentioned- where some really significant guns were added to the game for people you buy it AND they can use those guns on any ranked map- not just the special forces maps

I guess I don't know, I only play ranked. I don't play a ton though and can hold my own decently enough most of the time.

Yeah that Special Forces thing is pretty stupid. Before I bought it I actually logged into my brother's account once (he had it) so I could get the unlocks on mine. That was a bad move on their part, that's really unfair.

They had a good idea where it is possible to play on a server with restricted unlocks but unfortunately like you said, it's not very useful if you can't really play.

I rarely run across those problems. And none of them are cheats or hacks. The invisible smoke grenades and wallhacks in CoD2 are definitely cheats/hacks. People fighting over vehicles? Umm, yeah, damn hackers. Artillery at a spawn point? Yeah, damn hackers using that artillery. Most servers kick commanders who fly a jet like that. Annoying stuff yes, and people exploiting things sucks, but much of that stuff has been patched or should be with the next one. Just about every game has people exploiting and doing annoying crap. The large scale of BF2 makes it worse. As far as true cheaters and hacks, they aren't too common.


How would you know the servers are hard to find? Play it at all recently??


And finally you can't use tier 2 unlocks in SF maps. Unless the side you are on gets the weapon by default anyway (like the SAS assault starts with the F2000, whether or not you have it unlocked) it doesn't matter if say you have the SCAR or G36E unlocked.

Most every server I looked at (low ping for me) had stats some like this (not points, but kills):

21 - 3

17 - 0

19 - 2

I understand people are good and some have no lives and play video games all day. but isnt that ratio a little off ?

If you're strafing while you go prone, your avatar will roll automatically, but your screen won't actually spin.

Ratios like that are usually obtained by chopper raping or APC camping spawn points. Legitimate, albiet frustrating tactics.
