2 comps each with their own CD keys trying to play BF1942 on a home network which consists of (1) cable modem, (1) Lynksys Cable Router (1) comp with a Lynksys ethernet card and (1) comp with on-board lan (nForce2).

I always noticed that BF1942 would become nearly unplayable when one of my girls would get on the other comp to browse the internet, and that other games such as Vietcong, RTCW, Enemy Territory, ect., though slowed, were still ok. And no issues playing those apps on the two comps joining internet servers.

Then my buddy came over and brought his BF1942 over and once both comps would enter an internet server, they would nearly freeze the gameplay. One or the other would be fine, but two would be totally unplayable. Is the a special way I should be setting my comps up to play BF1942?

Are you laning between the 2 comps or are you both trying to play on a net server? If you are trying to play on the net you probably don't have enough upstream bandwidth. Otherwise I have no idea---

Aha! But you forget that BF1942 is more of a bandwidth hog then any other game. Either you (1) tell your Daughter not to surf the net while you play BF1942 or (2) get cable internet. How fast is your current internet's upstream and downstream bandwidth?

Sorry. However speeds would be nice as there are large differences in cable speeds. On my old cable internet (128Kbs upload) I had no issues with two people playing BF1942 on different servers over the net.

Come again? Read the post, upstream and downstream speeds matter most! Not what kind of internet you have.

Since I have seen 4-8 people play BF1942 on the net over a cable connection, I can't see why 2 doesn't work in your case. Check for spyware, viruses, etc on all of your machines. Is it possible your daughter's machine is off when she is not browsing, but on when she is? Does one person play fine when she's browsing?

BF1942's net code is definitely not as good as games based on Q3, however it should be working just fine regardless.

What do you both have your connection rate set to in the multiplayer setup options?

Host a co-op server, give us the ip. and then we can all have a good time playing and brain-storming what is wrong. :D

Download speed of: 465kbps

Upload speed of: 33kbps and on another run 55kbps

And comparring results from other testers for the same company, it looks to be the norm, maybe abit worse.
Uugh, not good on the upload at all. This is with me still logged in here on the forums, and one of the girls on the net with a few pages open.

That's definately the problem, that's a slow cable modem.

(For reference my cable modem is 2804 kbps down and 258 kbps up, and I don't have any problems with multiple people playing at the same time.)

Like Styrafoam asked, you might want to check what you have your connection rates set at in BF1942, and knock them back to dialup. Then you might be able to play at the same time.

Ok i'll try that, and i'm going to give my cable co a call too to find out why they figure I want such a fast dwnload speed and slow upload.

Just for the heck of it I dissconnected my router and tested (1) comp with just the cable modem, elimminating the other comp and router and there was no difference. So it is the isp I guess.

I just signed on for the competitions 640/320kbps DSL package with a 30 day trial.

I can't beleive my cable service was 512/64kbps, how lop-sided is that? And the bastards had swithched it several months ago from a 320/128kbps (I beleive) of course they only bragged about the 512 download aspect of the "up-grade"

cable is almost always heavily lopsided, I have 3200kbps down / 384kbps up ...but 384 is more than enough for a few players at a time, though it seldom is a need at my house. In your case though, 64kbps up is really pathetic. Good luck w/ the DSL, if priced similarly that may be the way for you to go if it performs well.
