one thing for me as well. Just like with movies, I am easily entertained. I don't need for a game or movie to be the best thing since sliced bread to enjoy it. I loved Heavy Rain and I am sure I will love this one as well. I don't have to spend 3 hours nitpicking the hell out of something to appreciate it
I'm about 6 hours into the game and I will give it a rating of 6 out of 10. Gameplay isn't very strong. It has a great story but its more like a interactive movie than a game. Graphics are actually pretty good also. Nice lighting and textures on skin.
Finished the game last night. Neck and neck with The Last of Us as the best games of the year as far as I'm concerned. The voice acting, motion capture, visuals, and set pieces were as good as it gets in sections, and, thankfully, the plot stayed strong and didn't devolve into a muddy mess. It'd also be criminal not to mention what a fantastic job Ellen Page and the rest of the cast did throughout the game. It's rare to see such a top to bottom effort put into motion capture and dialogue; though Quantic Dream still needs to tighten up their movement controls and the fluidity of changing directions (quick camera angle changes occasionally had me going in circles). I hate to nitpick too much though because direct control, and the streamlined interactions, were a big improvement over what was done in Heavy Rain.
I'm a couple hours in- I'm enjoying the story more than I thought I would based on the reviews. I do agree though the controls/gameplay are pretty bad, but if the story stays strong I'm ok w/ that.
Completed this game yesterday and I enjoyed as I expected. I liked the storyline, but I really can't call it a game at all. More of an interactive movie. I went back and got all of the alternate endings which were nice. Best part of the game is by far the acting by Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe. Hated how the game jumps around so much. Didn't seem fluid.
I did have a question (in spoiler tags for people who haven't played it).
Did anyone else notice that when Jodie was given the motorbike by the indian family in the desert that as she is driving away the old woman in the wheelchair is there? I don't know if that was a glitch, or if she was supposed to represent a spirit?

I've heard this a lot lately. My own brother made a similar comment after watching me play Beyond for about an hour (The Condenser chapter). He really enjoyed what he saw compared to some of the reviews he read, but anymore he's gotten impatient with narrative heavy single player games where he doesn't ever feel like he has the desire to start and finish one unless the reviews are so off the charts that he feels like he has to at least give it a try - yet at the same time he can put an hour or two a day into Black Ops II or MW3 because it's instant gratification with quick matches and heightened intensity. Or, as he puts it - a simple and pure game without any fluff.
Personally, I'm excited that a AAA game like Beyond is able to exist in a CoD/GTA/Skyrim/sports dominated gaming industry. I got back into gaming a year ago after largely sitting out on this generation, and it was due in large part to the new wave of narrative heavy games like Heavy Rain, LA Noire, The Walking Dead, The Last of Us, Journey, and most recently Beyond. While everyone went wild for GTAV, I was patiently waiting for Beyond, and now I'm looking forward to the The Walking Dead season 2 and The Wolf Among Us. It's like I'm a kid again back in the LucasArts 90's era, but playing grander, more adult-themed games. I don't know that there's a market large enough to support $60 AAA adventure titles, but Tell Tale has at least carved out a nice niche. At a minimum these types of games should continue to thrive in the indie realm with lower budgets prioritizing narrative, along with lower starting prices and shorter game lengths. With the capabilities of PS4/Xbox One hardware, we might be in for a long run of fantastic games that gamers will incessantly argue aren't games.
Lol, someone with a dev kit was able to control the camera and get nude images of Ellen Page's character. SCEE has sent some cease and desists out, but the secret is already out.
After seeing an article link to it, I watched a review and will actually pick this game up, despite not having a dev kit.
I was reading a bit about it, and it looks like the entire game is in engine with a fixed camera. A clever hacker might be able to unlock the camera. Still, rather silly for Sony to be so upset about. And, if they hadn't even made a stink about it, I think it wouldn't be getting as much press. I wouldn't have even known about it.
This game can't catch a break. I'm still re-playing sections on it and enjoying it a lot, but it seems to be not just disliked but despised by a sizable chunk of the gaming community. And now Ellen Page is pissed.
Have any sales numbers been released on this yet? (and will future sales double or triple on the misinformation that Ellen Page is nude in it 🙂 )
