The aspect that makes this racist is the pattern of speech trump uses when referencing minorities. He consistently uses terms like vermin, rats, infestation etc when referring to minority individuals or populations. He uses language that implies these people are subhuman. These terms are not used by Trump when referring to Caucasians.

He started in on the dope dealing rapey murderous fucking illegals first, because they're the most vulnerable. He's broadening the focus to, you know, our fellow Americans, exploiting the stereotypes white people have in their heads. He plays to White fears about how minorities actually hate them, about how they're the real racists & blah, blah, blah.

Isn't this all effectively victim blaming, disparaging people that live in slums instead of the slum lords that created them?

When you are fresh out of facts, I guess you can substitute "racism" into your argument. No real disputing that Baltimore has some really crappy areas and some happen to be in Cummings' district.

No one is debating that. People are simply stating that the only reason Trump brought it up is because he's a racist. He isn't trying to bring attention to the problem to improve conditions there. He isn't fighting for policy that will make it better. He isn't advocating for new ideas to fix the problems. He's simply trying portray minorities as inferior.

Trump's reason for not going himself? Bonespurs.
Yeah, remember when Presidents would tour poor areas so they could see first hand the troubles they were facing? I'd love to see Trump go to the areas of Baltimore that he verbally trashed, I'm sure he would be bigly welcomed by the locals.

Why do you think Trump hasn't trashed say, Mick Mulvaney's district, considering it is poorer than Cummings'?

You won't see Trump trashing Hal Rogers and Kentucky's 5th congressional district in Appalachia, either, even though there are some really broke-ass beat down people living there. It's because they're White.

There are run down beat up places & people all over the county, just the way Capitalism made it. It's a function of the sacred free market, after all. The Jerb Creators giveth & the Jerb Creators taketh away. Because they own. When they move on to greener pastures they really don't care about what they leave behind, other than collecting the rent.

yep, the thousands of safety-and-sanitation policies-violating Kushner properties.

So, you let a racist scumbag piece of shit developer build in distressed areas, they go on directly violating typical building and sanitation codes, bad things happen....but it's liberal racism?

fuck off, quisling.

Trump literally brought to the nation's attention the abject fact that his wretched son-in-law is predominantly responsible for all of the "shitholeness" that he is yelling about, and the only response you have to this is "liberals are racist."

Scum like you deserve each other.

You forgot to mention the mess they usually leave behind for the people of the area to pay to have cleaned up. Privatize the profit, socialize the costs good old American Capitalism in action.

ABC News radio played a clip from the White Supremacist Rally that Felonious D held yesterday where he was attacking California, Los Angeles, San Fransisco and "all those other cities" in California. I guess he figured that he's milked shitting on Baltimore for all he can so now it's time to up his game and move on to the state conservatives love to hate. I figure Chicago, Philadelphia and New York City are up on his hit list next. There's nothing more conservative than proclaiming to love America while shitting on fellow Americans, is there?

Hate, division and racism, that's what Felonious D and the Republicans are offering America for 2020 and beyond.

Trump going after the city of Baltimore basically allows everyone to blow off steam with no actual consequences or solutions but a lot of political credence for all parties involved. Baltimore is firmly Democratic and stands to lose nothing in terms of local politics. The city will keep its recently installed mayor(Catherine Pugh recently resigned over corruption. Sheila Dixon was also a corrupt mayor) and the corrupt institutions remain unchanged. Trump gets to look good for his voter base and trashing some black people. The people in Baltimore get juicy quotes to put lipstick on their pig of a city and even the governor of Maryland gets to milk his image as a Republican not in Trump's control and far more classy. Then there's drivel among the common folks from all sides, including practially this entire thread, pouncing on their preferred narrative while knowing absolutely nothing about what they are talking about.

Baltimore has a legitimate threat of violent crime and read enough about it, and you will accept the fact that there is a very real possibility of being murdered randomly for no reason at all and getting no justice for it. Then there are the murders that make you go "huh?" like the one just this two weeks ago at a naloxone clinic.

The counties in Maryland are reasonably safe places to live in, with plenty of affluence, but that cannot erase the toxic aspects WITHIN the city of Baltimore, where it has been a murderous place for decades, and the murders are not just drug deals gone bad.

The locales propping up Cummings' district is Columbia, which is in Howard County, and Ellicott City, and those demographics are nothing like what is in the city of Baltimore. The rest of the map is in rural outskirts. Elicott City has 64% whites and only 8 % Blacks. Columbia 55% whites and 25 % blacks...and heavily Democratic because this is Maryland here.

Nothing is done to fight the corruption in government with this exchange of words. Baltimore will go unscathed. So will Trump. All wretched in their own ways, but unharmed and in fact all have been strengthened by this little incident.

Somewhere in my head I have this idea that Munis like Baltimore would do a helluva lot better if they had the resources to do so. Other than having a very high homicide rate, they have the same problems as Trenton, Camden or Birmingham AL. Things changed, and Capitalism deserted them. Took their capital & went somewhere else. Bye Felicia! The same thing happened in Appalachia & all across the rust belt.

It's just the way Capitalism made it, too. We've let them have their way with us entirely too much for nearly 40 years.

Respectfully, this is a load of nonsense. There are very high-end places in Baltimore paying the BRUNT of the property taxes for that city. Hopkins, Bolton Hill, Inner Harbor and surrounding neighborhoods. Then the neighborhoods bordering Baltimore County, where there is a marked increase in property values, such as Mount Washington. Baltimore is also a port city, placed on the I-95 corridor, and literally surrounded by places of affluence. There is plenty of opportunity to "invite" businesses in through various incentives, revitalization projects that actually target a problem, etc.

There's also a drug problem, but the money isn't just coming from there. Those surrounding affluent areas? They got their fair share of youth who want their weed fix and harder drugs too.

In addition, other counties in Maryland are providing monies to the tune of 1.4 billion a year.

There is practically no Republican party in Maryland. It is a Blue Heaven and thus there is no room to mindlessly scapegoating of them because they practically don't exist. Baltimore is an example of mono-party rule and that a lack of accountability means public officials can raid the purse with practical impunity or merely "civil penalties". I doubt Catherine Pugh or Shelia Dixon are particularly hurt on an actual level despite the public shaming.
