I made the mistake of waiting to the last minute before hunting season and couldn't fine any. I had to buy a box from a colleague.

Anyone else have that problem last year?

Need to buy a new stand too. Someone stole mine,

not sure where you live, 30.06 (best rifle cartridge BTW) is easily available where I live (upper midwest)

No shortage of rifle rounds in South Carolina, either. IIRC, Academy Sports has the the common calibers on sale this week...

well... from his posts... it's obvious the OP is in hillbilly heaven.... he hates all races, and makes posts when he finds one he tolerates... he's a bible thumper who believes everything in the bible...

so... that means that 30.06 are passed around the way normal people pass around tic tacs.

That's where I'm at. Last year I covered about a 15 mile radius and couldn't find any.

Where I live previosly was shotgun only so I bought a rifle. Got a used, mint condition Savage 110.

Why do you need to stock up? How many shots does it take you to hit something? No matter where you live I doubt the yearly limit would consume more than a quarter of a box of ammo.

Come on, you can never have too much ammo.:sneaky:

That depends. If you live in the middle of nowhere like a wilderness man having tons makes economical sense. I don't think I even have five hundred rounds and I have quite a few different calibers, but I do know people with hundreds of thousands of rounds.

There are those types that think the world is going to shit and at some point in the near future there is going to be some kind of civil unrest/war right here. They always ask my why I am not stocking up on ammo. My reply is always "if it ever actually came to that I have more than enough ammo to secure more."

It takes more than 1/4 box. Practice, practice, practice. Make sure your shot is perfect.

That said, what kind of place runs out of 30.06 ammo? That's one of the more common calibers. I've seen Wal-Mart run out of 12 gauge slugs a day or two before shotgun season starts in NY, but I can't recall ever seeing the hunting/gun stores run out of just about any type of ammo (at least any type I've been interested in.)

I'd agree with you except for the annual scope-sighting and a few practice rounds. There's NO substitute for practice...

Back when I used to hunt, I usually ran a couple of boxes through the Winchester before hunting season...then only a handful at most during the season. MOST seasons, only two rounds were necessary to fill my tag. One to knock the animal down, one to make sure it was dammed dead. (I've seen a few hunters get fucked up by a deer or elk that wasn't "quite" dead when they went to cut its throat.)

I do not use scopes. I don't drop/throw my guns so the iron sights are where they need to be and have been for a quarter century. I did my time with practice when I was young. Thousands and thousands of rounds. I know where all my guns shoot and how they react to different loads. Even if I were to practice and shoot the full limit of deer here I would not need a half box.

Shooting for the sake of shooting is a different story. You haven't satisfied your inner gun nut until you cut down a 16 inch pine tree with a Browning 1919 mounted on a tripod. Too bad I fubared the video of that event. What a piece of shit camera.

Tons of 30-06 'round these parts. .45 is getting less common/more expensive for some reason though.
